It had all began the night before, a pretty flurry of snow that barely covered the ground, yet caught everyones attention nonetheless. As hopes for a white Christmas had been shattered that year just gone by, the arrival of a near six inches of snow almost overnight was exciting. No more so than for Van, who she'd been woken by in the early hours of the morning, his surprised yelp when he glanced out at the snow covered ground outside.
"Babe it's snowing out there" he'd cried grinning out the window like a child, "D'ya wanna go out in it?" the begging pout on his face as made his way back to her only building his case, after all she could never refuse him.
When he reached her, he began peppering kisses on her face affectionately. It was impossible not to smile at the way he was acting and when she reached to pull him back into bed he didn't object.
"Mhm later," she groaned wrapping herself up in his arms and falling asleep once more. He'd only sighed and smiled contentedly, tucking her in closer to his chest. He wouldn't fall back asleep but the fact he had her in his arms was more than enough to keep him satisfied.
The arrival of snow in early February was nothing out of the ordinary for Britain. It helped things feel a little more like home he supposed, that they'd at least get a chance at some quality time together before his life started up again. Before he was needed elsewhere and his job took over once more.
Though he had hoped to spend their days acting like tourists in their own city and going on dates to make up for all the time they missed out on, it seemed the weather had different plans. If it carried on for as long as the news had predicted, then they would spend their last days together hauled up in his tiny shared flat.
Characteristically he was still awake when she began to stir, only an hour after she'd woken the first time. It was instinctive to hold her close, pull her further into his embrace. Pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead when she looked up at him with her sleepy doe like eyes.
"Mornin love" he smiled, a toothy grin which showed off his imperfect teeth. A smile that was reserved for moments of bliss like now, wrapped up in each other, legs tangled and hair tousled. A smile that was reserved for her and her alone, her own slice of heaven, that no one outside of the two of them ever got access too.
With touring and his job he often had to give away parts of himself that were personal to him. He had to tell his favourite stories, be unapologetically himself yet also do what was expected, he had to entertain like the frontman he was signed to be. As such, there was certain sacrifices that he had be prepared to make, the most obvious amongst them his commitment to touring. Being miles away from his family was hard, but being miles away from the girl he loved more than anything in the world was so much harder.
"Morning," she leaned up, pressing her lips to his adam's apple carefully, kissing him lightly over and over until he pushed her away gently. Took it upon himself to flip her on her back and hover himself above her, the new position leaving her trapped underneath him, forced her to watch his next moves carefully to see where it was going.
She giggled innocently and looked up at him through her eyelashes, whispering a cheeky hello at his closeness. A soft blush tainting her cheeks when he didn't reply, instead reached with one hand to brush the hair from her face. Smiling at her beauty, unable to resist pecking her lips, then at her nose and then her cheeks.
Revelling in the softness of her against his lips, the faint smell of his body wash on her skin, another tell tale sign that he was home from tour. Unable to part from each other they spent every moment they could together when he was home, to the point where showering together became part of their routine, the innocence of it appealing to them both.
"Van," she laughed dragging his name out and squirming when he continued to sporadically place kisses across her face. Eventually shoving him off with a triumphant push, sending him into his own fit of childish giggles as he lay beside her.
"It's snowin y'know," he remarked nonchalantly, trying to appear as though he wasn't insinuating anything. Glancing between her and the open blinds with a look of mischief on his face, one that made it clear that whatever he was thinking it wasn't good.
She shook her head quickly, diving back into his embrace, whispering into his shoulder about how cold it was inside never mind out in the snow. Her head resting in the crook of his neck, attempting to coax him into letting her stay in bed just that little bit longer.
And he would oblige for now, making the best of the few days a year that he got to see her and only her. So instead of forcing her into the snow he reclined back and lay still, feeling her hands trail his arms and chest soothingly. One hand reaching up to play with his hair and the other splayed out on his bare chest. A comfortable position as long as she was in his arms.
Though the idea of building a snowman or having a snowball fight like they might've normally done was tempting, a moment like this content in each others existence was far more precious. Both wrapped up in each other, feeling as though they were the luckiest people in the world.
Not even Larry's snores which could easily be heard from the other room could ruin the moment. Their eyes meeting knowingly and their laughter shared, both covering the others mouth in an attempt to stifle it. The end result the both of them under the covers again, him underneath her and staring up at her beauty. Once again remembering how lucky he was to have her, and she him.
From where they lay they could see the snow falling through the window of his bedroom. A now increasingly heavier flow from what it had been this morning, each flake seemed to tease an amber weather warning which would leave them stuck in the house.
"I never want to leave this bed," he groaned tiredly into her shoulder, settling down next to her contentedly. And with every half hour that passed that statement only became reality as they chatted and occasionally scrolled through their phones, showing each other silly things they saw online.
"Guess we won't be leaving anytime soon," she commented matter of factly, showing him the weather warning on her phone, "they think it's gonna snow all week," and neither of them would complain about it. The thought of spending their remaining time stuck together like glue only gave them an excuse to do so.
And when she'd joked that his flight might get delayed if the weather carried on the way it was, he'd only laughed and took her phone away from her teasingly. Half heartedly agreeing, saying he wished he never had to get another flight again.
Even though he didn't really mean it she didn't say anything, touring would always be apart of his life. It was something that he couldn't live without and she'd come to understand that long before they'd even gotten together. She could tell he was dwelling on it even as he said it, silently waiting for her to change the subject.
So she, like he had before, obliged with ease, only too happy to turn around in his arms and gaze up at him. Stretching to kiss his nose and cuddling into him that bit tighter just cause she could. It wasn't often that they could spend a day laid up in bed, ignoring the rest of the world entirely but when they could, it was always worth it.
