"Wendy?!" Everyone yelled.
"Guys, she's probably just trying to scare us." Lee laughed aloud, his uneasiness easy to read.
"We have to find her," Tambry stated. "She has the keys to the van. I dunno if any of you can hot-wire a car. . ."
"Let's split up, this place isn't that big, and she's probably just tryin' to scare us like Lee said." Nate shrugged nonchalantly and went off in a random direction.
I watched in horror as everyone split up, leaving me alone by the door. I knew I should've stayed home! Robbie and I could've always hung out a different time! This was such a huge mistake!
My inner monologue of deprecating myself was cut short as I heard a scream. I ran in the direction of the scream and let out a barely audible gasp.
Nate was tugging on the ice cooler door, but it wouldn't give. Was. . .was Wendy in there?!
No. It wasn't her. But it wasn't any better. Instead, Lee was banging on the door from the inside, trying to get out. His screams were muffled by the weight of the door.
I looked at the ancient machine and couldn't believe it still worked. But then I saw what was actually happening. The little screen on the side of the door where the temperature showed, the numbers were slowly ticking down. It was at 59 now.
Not too cold, but the worst part was that it was going down! And we couldn't get him out!
"I'm gonna grab something to break the door down!" Thompson yelled, running off. "Stay back, Lee!"
Nate continued to tug on the door, trying to get his friend out. "Don't worry, Lee! We're gonna get you out of th-"
His reply was cut short by another short scream. A girl's scream; Tambry.
The tiles beneath her feet gave way and she went tumbling down into the dark abyss.
"TAMBRY!" Nate yelled, trying to pull on the freezer door and reach a hand out to her.
Robbie beat him to it and held onto Tambry's outstretched hand. "Hurry! I can't hold on much longer!"
I was frozen in place. Where the heck was Thompson?! What the heck was even happening? Why was it happening now?!
Before I could even think of what to do, the floor beneath Robbie collapsed, sending both him and Tambry tumbling down to who knew where.
"ROBBIE!" I screamed.
Nate turned and looked at me, his expression panicked. He seemed to remember where he was and who he was with.
"It's okay, kid," Nate tried to calm me down even though he wasn't the best person for that considering how much he was screaming earlier. "We need to call the police. Sure, we might get into some trouble, and they might find Wendy's stats, but they can help us!"
I nodded, feeling too numb to speak. My entire body was trembling.
"I'm gonna get my phone. I'll be right back, just stay here with Lee!" Nate ran off, calling out for Thompson.
I stayed rooted to the spot. I felt entirely helpless. Last time I was facing a monster of sorts, it was a little gnome. And right now I didn't have a golf club.
The other time, someone had helped me. That Dipper boy. I couldn't do anything.
"Robbie, Tambry, you guys down there?" I moved carefully closer to the hole in the floor. I saw them down there, lying unconscious on the ground which smelt horrible, by the way.
