Chapter 3
One Step Closer
Something about just walking around a place with dead people in graves beneath you, just creeps me out. Nerves on end, I hug my arms around myself as I read another broken gravestone, Arnold Linton. Wow, he sounds fun. Not.
Mikeal was a few feet ahead of me, the passage way had ended a while ago and we stood walking on the soft grass. The whole time, I'm worrying about Finn and trying not to step on passing graves. After watching a few horror movies with Finn, I was just waiting for a Zombie to crawl out and attack me.
Walking a bit faster, I got the uneasy feeling of being watched again. Looking around in the distance, I saw nothing. The deceased, repsond in silent cries of warnings. Mikeal, a small moving object to far ahead of me. How did he get there so fast?
Speeding up, I half-ran, half-walked just to get to him. The crunch of the dried leaves were all that were heard, as I reached him. I can't believe I'm depending on my would bekiller to protect me. Well, not killer, I remember him vaguely saying something about not killing me, but not saving me, either. Douche.
I frown, at that.
Deep in the graveyard, the trees losing some leave, branches sticking out as if in a creepy horror movie, passing more graves. It seems the farther we go, the older they date back to. Almost reaching the early 1800s. Now moss covered most, while others on the verge of falling apart. The moon over head, shining light on them all, the quiet resting place of m any souls.
Stopping, I take in the scene, asking Mikeal, "Where's Finn?"
He abruptly stops, to looks back at me. The look of guilt crosses his face for a brief second, if I hadn't bin staring at him so hard, I would've missed it.
Now, I know something is wrong here. I tense, anticipating his next words.
"He's not here." He whispers, a blank look on his face.
How was I not surprised?
In the same stoney voice, I ask cautiously, "Where is he?"
"He's safe, for now."
Relief washes over me, my shoulders sagging, as if they were waiting for it too. The thought of Finn alive brings a smile to my face, but quickly crumbles as I start thinking about my own safety. Staring at Mikeal, he looks pretty okay, not likely to harm you, just probably try to get into your pants. But looks can fool you, I speak from experiance.
Mikeal suddenly looking like a serial killer, I take a small step backwards, the wind to my left whips up in my hair. The loose pony tail, I had on earliar gone, my hair fell loosely to my back now, making the wind pick it up. The eerie feeling of being in a cemetery in the middle of the night finally catching up to my senses.
Nobody around, the perfect place to commit murder, or possibly suicide. The spreadsheet might say, Woman killed herself in burial grounds, because of cheating boyfriend and lost job. Found dead in Peterstown Cemetery. I can already picture my mourning friends and family.
Shaking that picture out of my head, I look to Mikeal, his stance perfectly straight, his back to an old church. Mines to the boneyard.
"Whats going on?" I whisper, calmly, eventhough my heart is racing miles pers second.
Staring at me so hard, I thought I would break, Mikeal turns his head to the side. As if hearing something.
"What-" I question, only to have my mouth covered by his hand.
"Shhh!" He hisses.
Eyes wide, I nod. How did he move so fast? He was there on second, the next tackling me to stay quiet. Sensing the coast was clear, he removes his callosal hand. I breath in a sigh.
"We have to get going now, " he looks everywhere but me. Grabing my arms, he shoves me beside him, moving in to the church, "Come now," Mikeal growls.
His arm has a vise hold on me, I can't do anything but follow him. Without another word, we enter the building.
Unknowingly, we were in for a big surprise.

The night, clear and reserved, creatures lurking in shadows, waiting, Slithering past stones, and trees, watching them. One miniture, creature hiding in the trees, watched the woman hugging herself, walking past the graves. Look of fear etched in her face, the tiny beast's face transformed into a huge cruel smile, licking its lips. Shutting his eyes, he leaned over past the trees, almost revealing himself, but stopping the last second.
Eyes still closed, the delighted look still on its face, it inhaled. The intoxicating scent of the human, not but a few yards away. Just imagining the look of sheer terror on the humans face, the parasite shivered in pleasure.
Moving along with its bretheren, through the city of the dead, their faces full of enjoyment and high hopes. He breathed in the now fading scent of the human.
His mouth watered, hoping through trees like a flying monkey, it watched her move faster as if sensing the danger lurking close by.
It laughed a sickeningly laugh, just like its appearance the creature was not a pretty sight to behold. In the soft light, the pale skin on it was almost translucent , a hunched creature, about 4 feet, but it's actual height of 5 almost 6. At first glance, it appeared of a boney human, but looking closely it was much more horrifing. The skin sunk in through the face, bones appearing through the thin fabric of clothing it had on, arms, thin but it held unnatural strength.
The Fortunate, we are called. We are the mistakes they keep hidden. Out of prying eyes, hunting us down, until our numbers diminish. Now not many of us breathe on this world. Scratching its claws down on a near by tree, the animal lets its frustration out.
The other stop and stare, while some move on, keeping their hungry eyes on the oblivious human.
It was time, for revenge, the creation thought. A stomache turning smile appearing on its face, crawling along with its kin, whispers in the dark.
