3.4K reads!? Jesus Christ-

I never thought this story would blow up so much :O

Okay, onto the story now.

.

Never in a million years did Akaashi even think he'd fall in love.

For the few romance movies he'd seen in his life, he'd ignored the clichés and never really understood "love at first sight." It's impossible that you just take one look at someone and immediately think "that's the one," he often told himself. And even if you did that, what happens when they turn out to be fake? Not "the one" like you thought they were?

Life isn't a fairy tale, with knights in shining armor, castles, evil witches and fairies, with pretty pink princesses waiting for their prince to rescue them from an evil stepmother or dragon. In real life, that would be something you read in a book, or watched on a screen, or something that was depicted by people in the theater.

Real life was hard, and it came fast with little to no warning. One second life would be cupcakes and roses, and the next second your mom has cancer, your grandfather is dead, and your sister is pregnant. (These are just scenarios. The only thing that I relate to is the second one.)

Akaashi had shunned love as a result, thinking it would be yet another train wreck waiting to happen. He just shoved his hands deeper in his pockets, ignoring happy couples on the streets and "who's dating who."

In fact, Akaashi had fallen once before. He'd fallen fast and hard.

It was his last year before high school, and everyone was buzzing about the school they'd be heading to next. Akaashi had been a bit more social that year, and was with his own group of friends when that person caught his eye.

He was tall, with brown hair and eyes. He held the air of someone who was totally in charge, not exactly arrogant, but close. Akaashi had taken one look at him and fallen for this total stranger.

He later learned that he was a transfer student named Futakuchi Kenji who had played volleyball at his old school. He had average grades, and there was nothing too special about him. Yet Akaashi still felt a connection that he couldn't deny.

He tried his best to ignore it, to leave it be, but it just grew stronger. It kept him up at night, leaving its mark on his face and taking a slight toll on his grades. His friends noticed and asked him what the matter was, but he just waved it off and said he was fine.

Finally one day he couldn't take it anymore, and after class he hurried to find Futakuchi. He rushed through the hallways, peeking into various classrooms as he went. Just as he was about to give up, he remembered there was one place he didn't check, so he ran over there. He held his breath, then looked around the corner. His eyes widened.

Oh, he'd found Futakuchi.

Akaashi's breath hitched, and he blinked his eyes rapidly, tears welling up and clouding his vision. He swiped at his face with his arm, hyperventilating, then ran away to leave Futakuchi with his girlfriend in peace.

Ever since then, he'd shut himself off from everyone that wasn't his friend. He'd stayed aloof whenever someone mentioned Futakuchi ever again, yet still joined the volleyball team at his high school. He grew to enjoy playing volleyball, a bit awed by how everyone could tolerate his attitude and general existence.

Then just two days ago, they'd dragged him to that party, and everything had changed.

Now he was feeling those same sparks that he had felt for Futakuchi all those years ago, but stronger.

And this time, his crush was a vampire.
