"There, look."
"Where?"
"Next to the girl with brown hair."
I could hear people whispering things as I left my dormitory the next morning. During class, they were staring at me. Some would come up to me and start asking me questions. Others would simply whisper things about me behind my back.
I didn't understand what was so amusing. Yes, I am the daughter of Severus Snape. Now please move on. I wasn't able to concentrate during class.
"Don't pay attention to them," Maia whispered to me as she caught up. "I know, it's just they don't even try to say things quietly--they talk about me right when I'm standing next to them."
Maia seemed to be nice, a little nicer than Katie. We had Transfiguration and Potions class left. Then, we would be free for the rest of the day.
I was still worried about Potions class. I wasn't sure how things would go with my father. I mean he hasn't spoken to me since the Hogwarts Express.
Yesterday, we had Charms class and our first flying lesson. We have flying lessons with Ravenclaw this term. Let's just say, I don't ever plan on joining the Quidditch team. My broom would not get off the ground as I yelled "up" about a hundred times. On the contrary, Katie and Cho both did very well. They were right about wanting to join the Quidditch teams in the future. I know they would do great.
We also received our first mail during supper. About a hundred owls had rushed into the Great Hall, circling until they saw their owners, and dropping letters and packages on their laps. I decided to name my owl, Lilith. I'm not sure why but I guess because it is similar to my middle name. She had brought me a letter. It was from Hagrid!
Dear Eileen,
I heard Friday's you only have two classes, so would you like to come over for a cuppa. You can meet me 'round two?
I want to hear about your first week and we can continue our creature research.
- Hagrid
I had sent Lilith back with a reply.
Honestly, I was happy Hagrid had asked me to come over. It would be right after Potions class and I knew I was going to need to tell him everything. Hagrid has always been a close friend of mine, probably my only friend.
Potions class took place in the dungeons. It was much colder but I was used to it. It was definitely not my first time in that class. I used to play around in the dungeons and the classes when I was younger. The only thing better about the Slytherin dormitories was they were all underwater. Looking out the windows, you can see the lake.
Father or I should say, Professor Snape, had started the class by taking the roll call. He reached to my name- "Eileen Snape"
"Present, sir." I had said 'sir' so lightly, I don't think anyone heard. Everyone was staring at me. Other names started to get called, yet they were still looking at me. I turned around and the students behind me were also staring.
We had potions with Slytherin this year and they were all sitting on the right side of the class, while we sat on the left. Thankfully I was not in the front, Maia and I were sitting by each other towards the middle.
As he finished roll call, he continued right on to his lesson.
"You are here to learn the subtle science and exact art of potion-making," he began in his usual voice. I am not sure why he talks like that, I even mentioned it a couple of times in the past, he just gave me a look each time. It was tranquil, and unless the room were absolutely silent, you wouldn't be able to hear what he was saying. But I do believe he talks extremely slow with others, while talking to me you could almost call it 'normal'.
