Ron Weasley was staring at you again.

You were at breakfast this time, stirring honey into your tea with a sleepy precision as you weighed up how you were going to spend the study hour you had after Potions tonight. Pansy Parkinson, who was more awake than you on your left, dug a sharp elbow into your ribs. Your hands jolted and you snapped a curse at her as your tea spilt. Pansy didn't apologise as she leaned in to speak to you softly, righting the teacup as she did.

"Weasley's been staring at you- no don't look! Idiot." You shrug her away from you, confusion dousing you. The Gryffindor in question, the youngest boy was indeed glaring at you from the Gryffindor table, his fingers clenched tight around his teacup. Granger knocked his shoulder with her own in a futile attempt to get him to stop but the knuckles only whitened.

You looked away.

"What the fuck?" You hissed at Pansy, who was looking rather amused, the cow. She shrugged, clearly as baffled as you. With that shrug, she turned to address Daphne Greengrass, leaving you confused and staring into your tea for answers, all the while, very aware of Weasley's glare.

The other two were in on it too.

The twins glowered at you as you slipped by them in the halls on your way to DADA and you could still feel your neck burning from their glares as you dropped in next to Zabini. Umbridge came in right behind you and just as well, as Weasley looked half out of his seat before she entered. His eyes met yours briefly and you were more than a little startled by the hostility in them.

Sure, you suspected the rivalry especially between Gryffindor and Slytherin, but you were a fairly background Slytherin. You were friendly, of course, mostly with your house but usually sat with Ravenclaws Mandy and Lisa, or Cassius Warrington, who you'd grown up with. He and your other Quidditch friends were easy to hang out with, despite them being in their last year and you being in your fifth, it meant you had good rapport on the pitch as well. You already knew you were going to miss him terribly when he left. The two of you were headed to Hogsmeade in a few weeks for a shopping trip ahead of Christmas, your families took turns celebrating with the other and it was a welcome tradition.

Umbridge had begun speaking and you practically jolted back to the present to hear her absolutely losing it at Granger, yet again. Granger was arguing over some rule that Umbridge was attempting to downplay, how and why you were unsure but magical law was one of the few things you were brilliant at.

Umbridge caught your hand raise and her smile brightened at what she seemed to think was an opportunity to move on from Granger's tirade. Little did she know you were amongst the Slytherins that both detested the Ministry, and the puppet they were making of little Miss Pink at Hogwarts.

"Actually ma'am, you'll find that is not the case. It's been disproven to be entirely effective, Granger is correct in her assumption." Umbridge made a little squawking sound, while Granger flashed an almost grateful smile in your direction. You were unblinking as Umbridge glared down her nose at you, Pansy shooting you an amused smile from behind Umbridge and you tried your hardest to keep a straight face. Zabini, on your right, cleared his throat and made a show of pursing his lips and exaggerating rolling his shoulders back with a heavy sigh. Umbridge got the message, swivelling sharply on her kitten heel and striding back to the blackboard. Zabini bumped your shoulder gently with his own, leaning in to whisper to you and bringing with him a waft of spicy cologne.

"You know charity work like that will get you on her shit list, right?" You snickered, sending him a lopsided smile and he returned it, wrinkling his nose in an endearing fashion as he did. For all of Zabini's grace, he smiled like a young child.
