Just want to say, there will be a bit of mystery in this book, the narrator and I are two different people, not literally but you get it. At the end of every chapter will be a text that will consist of how many words there are and maybe it will have a little clue. Or just a few questions to make you more frustrated ;)
You will get what I'm talking about at the end of the chapter. And Athene is my fake name, I can't use my real name for privacy purposes. So if you see the name Athene, then that's me, the author. Not the narrator, because the narrators name will remain unrevealed, which is the point of the mystery part.
Daiki and Azuki Soshi were famous pro-heroes. They had a good reputation and had a lovely, well-mannered daughter that everyone adored.
They weren't the best of parents, like some people, including myself, say, 'Every child deserves a parent, but not every parent deserves a child'. It is a very nice saying in my opinion.
They were almost never there, they always had some work to do. Their daughter, Kana, felt neglected, the only person she trusted was her babysitter, Kioyo.
Then she got her quirk... her parents had 'hero' quirks, Azuki could transform into a panther, while Daiki could transform into a lion. They expected her to have a quirk that was somewhat animal-themed.
But Kana's quirk was Voodoo magic. She could infuse dolls with 2 types of 'magic'. One where if she changes the hair of the magic-infused doll, it would appear on her own hair. The second, if she made a doll of Daiki, and infused it with the second type of magic, she could control him however she liked. She usually had two types of dolls she infused with magic, ahead of time.
Her parents didn't understand. How could they, two heroes with animal-themed quirks, give birth to this... villain? But Daiki had forgotten about his sister. Who Kana had met on multiple occasions... it never ended well. His sister also had a Voodoo quirk, but Kana's was much stronger.
They started to neglect her completely, and I loudly protested when I found out, which was almost immediately because— well, I can't just tell you who I am. Then, there wouldn't be any fun in the game~
Kana had Kioyo at least, right? That was until her parents found out that Kana trusted Kioyo more than them. They were so mad, they fired her. Not understanding why Kana trusted her so much, she cried for days when Kioyo left and didn't even shed a tear when Azuki or Daiki left for a mission.
After 4 more years of neglection, Kana had turned 8, she decided she had enough.
She ran away. I helped her, but she didn't know. There was always someone who gave her food or water or let her stay at their house for a bit.
One day, she got a second quirk. It WAS animal-themed. She could transform into any feline, but every form costed energy, and once her energy was drained, she'd go into a deep sleep. And depending on which form she used, determines how long she'd be asleep. A jaguar needed the least energy, along with the cat. She also had attributes of certain felines as sharp teeth and sleeping in trees.
She changed her look, wanting to forget about her past, she had changed her hair to dark orange, with black dyed tips, she had weird 'tattoos' on her face. And she learned how to let her ears and tail out.
She did have a little misunderstanding with a few 'kids' while still in her disguise. But she made it out alive. She was still in her disguise, so there was no way they would ever be able to recognize her, right?
