Keenan

Hours were spent cataloguing the weapon arsenal, moving all the items into secure locations with experienced guards with tactical training to over watch everything. Most of the time I spent with Elijah and his SWAT team as I had more experience than the others in Intelligence, minus Jay who served in the Army Rangers and Hank being a sergeant, the two had the most experience with high weapons like this, but not to this extent.

From time to time Elijah and I would be on the phone with someone from Intelligence to keep up with case and anything that we could check out. After realizing just how dangerous it would be to enter a place without the proper training or gear Voight made the decision to have SWAT check out all the locations first. Not that he wanted anyone on SWAT to get injured but as proper precaution for his unit, something Sergeant Torreto understood perfectly. I on the other hand was used to always going into places first so I didn't see the difference.

"We need more detail on his security jobs and I need to see the complaints filed against Mr. Downy, there has to be a tiny connection somewhere". My voice steady but also filled with a small hint of exhaustion, the amount of sleep I had prior to this case was barely existent, this whole thing just piled onto it.

A hand was laid on my shoulder, dragging my attention away from the make shift crime board I created to keep up with Intelligence, Elijah stood there with his arms crossed. "Reid go take a nap, I can tell how tired you are"

Though little butterflies started to flutter around in my stomach at his concern, I could shake my head in response. "I'm ok". A gentle tone fell from lips as I turned back towards the board. "I will sleep once we find a connection and figure out what's going on" only I was disrupted from the idea of motivation by Elijah walking in front of me, blocking my line of sight of the crime board.

For a few seconds the two of us held  eye contact, neither of us daring to move away like it would interrupt something. A silent argument communicated through our eyes, but it was more sentimental then that. His eyes holding an ounce of dominance, and worry while mine held determination and stubbornness. The way he looked at me with such concern, and caring felt familiar to how everyone in the BAU acted towards one another but this just felt more meaningful.

"Keenan". Though his tone held power and authority, laced within was gentleness, something that eased my tensions. Placing one of his hands on the table next to where I was sitting, I couldn't help but stare at his hand for a few seconds before my eyes trailed up his arm and back towards his eyes, a subtle amount of heat started to rise on my cheeks. "I know how important this case is but I am worried you will overwork yourself and pass out. So, will you please rest for a little bit, I don't want to explain to your boss how you passed out".

The stubbornness in me was going to put up a fight with him, but I stopped myself. Deep down I knew I wasn't going to be much help with the lack of sleep I've been getting. Softly nodding my head in response, Elijah held his hand out for me to take helping me off of the desk I've been perched on for hours. Leading me towards the break room at SWAT headquarters, my eyes glanced around the room. As the sergeant was about to leave the room I instinctively reached for his wrist, effectively causing the man to turn back towards me. "Will you please wake me up if you find something out"

Not needing any words in response, the small head nod and light smile was enough for me to relax. Squeezing my hand once, I watched Elijah's figure disappear from the break room as he shut the door. As if my body knew that I was finally able to rest for a little while, I let out a small yawn before laying down on the couch, and seconds later I was asleep.

Elijah Torreto didn't understand the feeling that flowed through him the longer he spent with the Reid girl. He didn't understand why he was attracted to her insane intelligence about criminals and the behaviors that cause it. He didn't understand why he felt so protective after the whole mini militia take down when he can clearly see how strong and badass the Agent was.

The SWAT sergeant was one who held a tough, unreadable stature when he worked, he was always prepared to get involved in a dangerous situation if it called for it but it was as if Keenan Reid could look past his barrier. Throughout the whole day she was able to get everyone's tough walls down even if it was for a few seconds. and that alone caused the sergeant to be closer towards the girl. He felt this overwhelming need to take care of the girl after seeing her stare at the make shift crime board for hours and never taking a break. He saw the dark circles under her eyes darkening the longer they worked and he grew concerned.

Only Keenan and Elijah weren't the only people to see the instant connection between the two. Intelligence, although they themselves were wary of the girl due to her being a federal agent, they could tell she was on edge around people but her posture remained relaxed and at ease with the SWAT Sergeant. As for Torreto's own SWAT team, they couldn't believe their eyes seeing their boss so relaxed and open to someone. Everyone could tell that a bond formed, it was only a matter of when.

---

It wasn't more than hour until I was startled awake, my heavy breathing sounded around the break room as I did my best to keep the tears from falling from my eyes and the sobs wanting to escape silent. No matter where I was or how long I am asleep for nightmares will continue to plague my mind, and I haven't figured out a way to stop them without bothering my big brother or anyone else from the BAU.

Doing my best to wipe away the evidence of my fear and nightmare, I blinked my eyes rapidly to blink away the tears and took deep breaths to lower my racing heart. Endless amount of darkness surrounded my mind as many negative images and memories started to flood through my mind once again, but in an instant they vanished at the sound of the door handle turning. The sight of Elijah poking his head in the break room was nothing short of a relief, I didn't know how much longer I could have dealt with the silence and loneliness. "Did you find something?"

Something in my tone caught the sergeants attention as he tilted his head slightly, observing my appearance as if he knew something had happened in my sleep. "Yeah, are you ok Reid?"

Not able to resist it a small, genuine smile that grew on my face as I nodded at him. "Just some bad memories that's all". Making my way over towards the hazel eyed man, our eyes locked once again and a soft, warm feeling rushed to both of our cheeks at the small interaction. Quickly moving our eyes away from the other, it didn't stop the blushes from appearing on our cheeks.

"From what Intelligence has found out so far was Mr. Downy did security gig at a high level arsenal distribution center where he had a confrontation with a honorable discharged soldier by the name of Lucas Driggs. Turns out Driggs was trying to sneak through the back entrance and Downy had repeated several times to leave the premises and had to forcibly remove him"

Giving me a moment to process the information, I scanned through the photos of the arsenal we picked up at the warehouse, and the bullets found in my SUV. "Do we know what kind of ammunition and guns they were distributing?"

Connections started to fall into place quite quickly at the sergeants response. "All of the weapons we found in that warehouse, Intelligence is running through the inventory list Sterling sent them to figure out which shipment they were stolen off of"

"Well we may have the how they got the weapons but we still have to figure out who is involved and why they targeted Downy specifically because it has to be something more than a confrontation"

Picking up on the fact I was starting stress myself out once again with all of the scenarios and connections I was creating in my head, Elijah laid a soft touch on my shoulder to bring me back to reality, "We'll figure it out Reid, and from what I can tell you might be the one to do it"

Oh just how right he was.

Author Note:
They are so freaking cute!!!! I think the two of them work so well and they literally have known each other a day, but there is definitely a bond between them. Elijah is so empathetic and caring outside of work and Keenan being who she is, was able to bring out that soft side of Elijah thus letting him see just how exhausted the girl was.

I do apologize for not updating as often, I am trying to focus on school and my health at the moment. Hopefully you like the chapter and the chemistry between Elijah and Keenan, I think they are adorable and perfect for each other. I will give you a little spoiler but our Sergeant Torreto is going to be the one to help Keenan with her nightmares and it might involve a accidental sleepover (nothing sexual involved mind you).
