Keenan
We all watched for a little while longer, the boy surprisingly still holding on. As I listened to the two men interrogate, I couldn't help but think that there was something even deeper about his past. The way he looked at Adam and Kevin with this hidden hatred, how he guarded himself when things about his past were brought up.
"We aren't getting anything out of this kid". Glancing around the people in the room, I could tell they were annoyed.
"He is guarding himself. Evading the questions, looking at Ruzek and Atwater with this pain and hatred, I think something traumatic happened when he was young. He might break if a woman goes in, something in that folder is the key and it need to be played the right way".
A curious look was sent my way by Voight before switching to one with an idea. Almost not liking where this was going, I did my best to keep my composure. I've done interrogations, lead a hostage negotiation, I dealt with my fair share of unsubs but I prefer to kick down doors and apprehend them.
Knocking on the door where the three males were sitting civilly, the duo popped into the room to joined the merry band. Handing me back the folder, I flipped through it, trying to find a good starting point. "You're up Reid".
Nodding softly, I slid out of the room with as much confidence as possible. Taking a deep breath, I tried to remember the thing Hoth told me many times before I entered the room with any suspect. "Don't let their demeanor break you down. Use it against them".
Opening the door, I entered the room not even giving the man a glance. Leaning against the wall next to the mirror, I could tell I peaked Mr. Wilkins interest by the way he sat up in the chair more. Scanning through the documents in the folder, I allowed the silence to linger in the room. It was a tactic I used, when you are left in a completely silent room it causes you to over analyze. It will cause you to go stir crazy, the need to talk to do something will become overpowering to the point where you slip.
Finally lifting my head, I didn't speak, I lowered the folder taking in his form. I wanted to smirk as he shifted in the chair uncomfortably, the silence starting to get to him. "Are you going to talk".
With a nonchalant shrug of the shoulders, I tilted my head. "Why should I, the silence seems to be doing a good job.".
He sent me a scowl, tugging on the handcuffs trying to get out. Standing up from the chair, he tried to use his build and height to intimidate, which didn't work well the other dozens times unsubs tried it. Walking closer towards him, the only thing heard were my heels clicking against the floor. Laying my hand on his shoulder, I forced him back down which resulted in this to sound out. Swiftly moving away from him, he first looked scared before he was clenching and unclenching his first and jaw, seemingly disturbed by how this was going.
"Would you hurt a woman" Throwing him off his inner tantrum, he looked at me confused.
"No". Nodding my head slowly, I leaned against the wall again.
"Why"
"Why the hell does that matter"
"The way you reacted. It was your mother wasn't it, the woman you saw get hurt in despicable ways when you were child". A rage lit in his eyes as I find his sore spot. "He beat her every night, tying you to a chair in the living room to watch"
Eruptly standing up, the metal chair was smacked to the side of the room. "Shut the hell up". He was seething, that wall ultimately starting to crumble due to the fury running through him.
Not backing down, I stepped closer to the table leaning across it. "He slapped her around, punched her, kicked her. Little Blake Wilkins was tied to a kitchen chair with his fathers belts, as he ultimately saw his mother being brutally murdered in front of him."
"Enough!"
"Emma Marie Wilkins 32, found in Chicago home with a slit throat and 30 stabbed wounds. Leaving behind 10 year old son Blake Wilkins and 38 year old Brett Wilkins". Not batting an eyelash I watched as he raised his fist but collapsed into the bench against the wall, a pure look of distraught taking over the once furious man.
Closing the folder, I let out a small sigh. "What you saw was horrific, traumatizing but I need the truth and I need it now"
Facing me fully, tears were spilling out of his eyes as he was most likely thrown back to the memory of his mother being murdered. Placing the pictures from Kravenson house in front of him, he glanced at them. "I tried so hard to not be like my father, but that guy in the picture, I saw him smack his wife around constantly... and I.."
"You snapped, it reminded you of what happened when you were kid."
With a nod of his head, he leaned against the wall in a more calm manner, like this weight was lifted off his shoulder. "He's buried behind the warehouse". Asking a few more questions needed for the investigation as well as the location of Mr. Kravenson's items.
Leaving the room, I walked past the others and straight into the bullpen. Dropping the folder on top of my desk, I could feel the emotional toll it took out of me. I may have seemed so emotionless, but deep down interrogating wears me down. I hated doing it, everyone knew it, Hotch always did everything he could to not put me in that situation.
Hearing everyone walk back out, I could feel their eyes. Lifting me head I couldn't help but make eye contact with Voight. He wasn't a man of many words but even held a lightened look in his eyes. "Good work".
Without another word he entered his lair, leaving me with the rest of Intelligence. "That was badass". Letting out a light laugh, I smiled at them.
"Glad you think that, because I don't do it often, I hate interrogating"
"Alright badass profiler, what do you like doing then".
Leaning against my desk, I picked up on the fact everyone was more relaxed, like I proved I was good enough to be apart of them. "I told Hailey this but I am actually the one to burst through the doors, lead everyone inside"
"She's coming for your job of effortless door kicking Halstead"
Seeing the playful fighting between the guys, I would have to be blind to not see they were a tight knit group. "I'm just glad there is another woman, we can finally even out the score". Hailey and Kim shared a look of agreement at the statement, the two around too much testosterone.
Finishing up the work that was needed, we all started to get ready to leave, and I couldn't help but smile. "Hey Reid, you want to come with us to Molly's, it's a bar we hang out at after shift."
Appreciating their offer, I shook my head. "I have a date to video call my old team, but I will next time". Leaving the bullpen with the rest of them, I quickly split off towards the suv, a large smile on my face at the idea of seeing everyone. Without another second, I waltzed into the apartment grabbing hold of my laptop.
Calling Garcia, the energetic tech analyst was ecstatic to hear me. "Hey cake pop, can you patch me through"
Not a second later I saw everyone's smiling faces as well as Penelope's. The group was currently on a case but they were taking a break for a little bit to see how I was doing. "It's our little fireball, how was your first day kiddo".
"It was good, everyone is little bit on edge at the moment but that's understandable. I even had to interrogate someone so I'm emotionally drained"
"Well we are all proud of you sugar cake, even though you hate questioning suspects, you can always make them break down". Hearing Morgan's statement and nickname I couldn't help but laugh. Out of the group, Garcia, Morgan and I had nicknames for everyone.
I stayed on the call with them for a while longer, enjoying the familiarity even thousand miles away. Listening in to what they were dealing with, I tried to help out as much as I could without having anything in front of me. I may be stationed in Chicago to work with Intelligence, but I'm still an agent with the BAU.
Eventually hanging up with the crazy clan to actually get some sleep, I was content. This was my life for a little while, and it doesn't seem that bad, as long as I can burst through some doors sometime soon.
