Mercy
I blew out gently and watched the grey smoke rise out of my mouth into the cold air. Pulling my big coat around me tighter, I shivered in the cold. Looking up at the white sky I searched for the moon, despite it being day time.
It had been about a month now and Remus was still not mine. I had tasted true happiness for one night, and lost it. So, putting bad things into my body seemed like the best way to cope. I had consumed more alcohol, cigarettes and even people in the past month than I had in the rest of my life put together.
My friends, apart from Fred, Ginny and Hermione, only talked to me now if they were forced to, realising something was wrong but not caring enough to ask, which made me feel great, of course. In the matter of a month, I had lost almost everything I had.
"That shit won't help you." Fred made his way over to me, his feet crunching in the fresh blanket of snow. I smiled at him and handed him the cigarette. "You're shit at rolling, Mercury." He said, taking a drag and breathing it back out.
"I'd like to see you do a better job, Weasley."
"Couldn't." He replied honestly, grinning "George rolls all ours." He froze suddenly and looked at me, not sure how I would react at the mention of his name. He knew how I felt about the other at the moment and usually tried to avoid discussing any of them.
"How is he? George, I mean. He hasn't spoken to me in ages." I said, taking the cigarette back from him. His shoulders sagged. I had heard him speaking to George about him talking to me more but George had just shrugged and left.
I wasn't used to being outcast. I had always got on well with everyone. So what had changed?
"Yeah, he's alright. We don't have to talk about him though, let's-"
"I hate it when you do that." I interrupted him.
"Do what?" He asked, his brown eyes looking into mine.
"Treat me like I'm delicate. I'm not going to break every time we talk about something that isn't stupid." I said.
"Oh but you are delicate, Sparks. My delicate little Mercury." He teased me and I rolled my eyes before stomping the finished cigarette into the snow. "I'm assuming you still wont tell me who the guy that broke you enough for you to start smoking is still?"
"Sorry. No can do." I smiled at him and kissed him on the cheek, taking his scarf off and wrapping it around my own neck.
"Hey!" He protested but I just grinned.
"I'm cold." I said.
"So am I!"
"No, you're ginger."
"Fuck you!" He yelled after me as I skipped off towards to frozen over lake.
"You wish you could fuck me, Freddie!" I yelled back, laughing.
I screamed as I felt his arms wrap around me and pick me up, slinging me over his shoulder. "Put me down, you arse!" I shouted, laughing and hitting his back.
"What's that about your arse?" He said, laughing at me this time. "Nice skirt, by the way."
"Oh shit." I said, my hands fumbling at the hem of it, realising that I was probably flashing my whole bum "Freddie, put me down!"
