It was a regular day like all others. You sat inside with your father, reading. There was some tea on the tabel that was between you two.
'And then so, and my wife and I singing to our great content. And if ever there were a man happier in his fortunes, I know him not.' You read out loud.
You closed the book and smiled at your father.
'Thus ends Mr. Peeps for today. I do love a happy ending, don’t you?'
'They’re quite my favorite sort.' He smiled.
'As well they should be.' Your grinned.
Your father looked at the book you were holding. It seemed like he wanted to say something. He put down his cup of tea and looked at you.
'Ella, I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s time perhaps to begin a new chapter.'
'Indeed, father.'
You gave him a comforting smile, hoping it would give him the courage to talk to you.
'You recall that some time ago in my travels I made the acquaintance of sir Francis Tremaine.'
'Yes, the master of the Mercy’s Guild, is he not?'
'Was. The poor man has died alas. His widow, an honorable woman, finds herself alone, though still in the prime of her life.'
You grinned and shook your head with a smile.
'You’re worried about telling me, but you mustn’t be. Not if it will lead to your happiness.'
'Yes. Happiness.' Your father smiled brightly. 'Do you think I may be allowed one last chance? Even though I thought such things were done with for good?'
You gave him a bright smile.
'Of course I do, father!'
You got up and sat with him while giving him a big hug. He held you tightly against him.
'She’ll really be your stepmother, and you’ll have two lovely sisters to keep you company.'
-
You headed towards the front door. You already heard a carriage outside. You took a deep breath.
'Have courage, be kind.' You said softly to yourself.
You sprinted over to your father who kissed your cheek. He headed towards the carriage.
'Welcome, ladies! Welcome!'
Your father helped two young girls out of the carriage. One was wearing a bright pink dress andthe other a bring yellow one. They had curly hair and wore hats matching their dresses.
'Youre very nice.' One of them said to your dad.
'I'm so happy to meet you.' You smiled at the girls.
The one in pink grabbed your hair and swung it over your shoulder.
'You have such pretty hair.'
She walked and stood besides her sister.
'Oh, thank you.' You smiled.
'You should have it styled.' The other one said.
'Oh, I’m sure you’re right.' You said. 'Would you like a tour of the house?'
The sisters moved closer to each other.
'What did she say?'
'She wants to show us around her farm house. She’s proud of it, I think.'
