Chapter 9 ~ If I Fell

Caleb’s POV

My life was perfect then. My family lives in a huge house in Chelsea. I have everything anyone would wish for.

My father, Carmichael ‘Mick’ Richardson, is a successful musician. He is the lead guitarist and vocalist for the band Fools and Heroes. They make millions in record sales and concerts. He is your ideal father. He comes home every night for dinner except when he has concerts. He plays with me and teaches me in my school works and in life. I cannot explain how cool it is for people to love your Dad because of what he does. He is a humble and honest guy despite all of his achievements.

My mother, Penelope, is a stay-at-home mom. She used to be, at least. I remember her taking good care of me and my sister, Caren. She used to be the perfect mother and wife.

My last memories of her though were those that involved arguments with my Dad because she was never home. She was always out with her friends. She would go out in super tight clothes and put on tons of make-up.  As a child, I knew she did not need those things to look good. She is naturally beautiful.

I have seen the cracks in my family but being young, I did not know what was going to happen if the cracks give in. Everything fell apart when I was seven.

Caren was only six when she had an accident. Her nanny got distracted and she was left alone. While playing, she crashed into a glass table. The glass cut her badly. She had a huge gash on her thigh and a cut on the side of her head.

They found her bleeding profusely and unconscious. She was rushed to the hospital and they had to stitch her up. Because she lost a lot of blood, the doctors needed to make a blood transfusion.

I was too young to donate blood. So, that leaves my mom and dad to donate. They have the same blood type. I have the same blood type as them. You would expect Caren will have the same blood type too but she has a very different one.

My father suspected something was up. How can everyone in his family have the same blood type except his only daughter? He doted on Caren. She was his little porcelain doll. He gave her everything she asks for.

My Dad’s record producer, Steve, stepped up to donate blood. He and Caren were a blood match.

That same night, my father confronted my mother.  She admitted to having an affair with Steve just right after giving birth to me. Caren is the product of that affair.

My mother and Steve made my Dad believe Caren was his. My Dad never doubted my mom. He loved her so much. He even left his first girlfriend, Maya, to be with my mother.

Maya, by the way, committed suicide. She fell in deep depression when my father left her. The only thing my father could do for Maya was name his now famous guitar after her and compose songs full of regret and sorrow for her. He never forgot her.

Do you see how twisted karma is? My father left Maya for my mother who eventually cheated on him.

My Dad was prepared to forgive my mother but she decided to file for divorce instead. She told him the affair with Steve has continued over the years. His manager who he treated as his best friend ran off with his wife. They made a fool out of him for years.

The great rock star crashed down from his pedestal. His ego was really bruised. He did not want to go to business meetings because Steve will be there. His band had to switch management companies which required a huge payout.
