Chapter 4 ~ Kiss The Stars

Kendall and I arrived at the party with her roommate Mia and my classmate Natalie. The party has just started and I spotted Patrick looking nervous in the corner. He is playing with his new band tonight at their very first gig together.

“Hey, Pat.” I greeted him with a smile as he approached. “You look nervous. Don’t be. You guys were awesome during practice.” I said to try to boost his confidence. They really sounded good when they practiced earlier.

“Thanks, Elle. We could really use that. Lucas feels like he wants to puke.” He laughed and nodded towards Lucas’ direction. He was fidgeting with his guitar and keeps on rearranging his Bieber-style bangs. “Our set is starting in ten minutes. Please stay.” He looked at me pleadingly.

“Of course, I will. We will.” I promised and nodded towards Kendall and the other girl’s direction. “You already got yourselves some groupies.” I chuckled. He smiled gratefully and proceeded to the stage.

We watched and cheered the guys as they played their set. They sang eight songs and exchanged banters with the crowd. Patrick played the lead guitar and did vocals. They were really good. The crowd loved them when they did a rendition of The Script’s ‘The Man Who Can’t Be Moved’. When they finished, young women immediately came up to chat with them.

Patrick chatted with them for a while and then broke away and headed toward me to invite me to dance with him. I received the evil eye again from some girls. It reminded me of the time I dated Jonas. Every girl in our social circle hated me for being Jonas’ girl. I guess some things never change.

Lucas went straight to Kendall and asked her to dance with him. After dancing and drinking for hours, I got bored. Patrick was pulled away by another girl to dance and I decided to sneak out and get some air. I explored the balcony and followed the stairs I saw. I want to know what is up there. I actually like hanging out on rooftops.

My room is on the top floor of our house. It has huge windows and I can always climb out and sit on the red-tiled roof. I also climb out there to hide from my brother’s wrath whenever I damaged one of his gadgets. I use it to sneak in and out of the house whenever I attend parties without permission. So yeah, I love rooftops.

I got to the top of the stairs and pushed the bar handle of the door. It gave in and a gust of fresh air hit my face and filled my lungs. I stood by the entrance just savoring the cool breeze. The hotel ballroom has gotten stuffy. I am glad I found this place to clear my head. I had swiped a bottle of wine by the bar and I can chill out here for a while.

I stepped to survey the place when I noticed someone sitting by the chimney wall. The guy is brooding and nursing a bottle of Jack. He was staring at me curiously. “Hey, mind if I join you up there?” I don’t exactly want to brood with him. I am actually enjoying the party. I am just intrigued why he is up here alone. “What’s up there anyway?” He said he has a good view of the valley. He took my wine bottle and glass and helped me up by holding my hand.

I clambered up the steps in my high heels to get to where he sat, high up in the chimney wall. It was a good thing that I wore black stockings under my puffy, blue and white chiffon dress. It would have been disastrous otherwise. I would not want to expose myself to a stranger, not even if he is a good looking one.

“Oh, wow. I have never seen these many stars before.” I sighed breathlessly when I settled down beside him. He handed me back my wine bottle while he took a swig from his own. “Awesome.” I whispered while I poured myself some wine. “I can kiss the stars.” I made some air kisses and raised my glass toward the sky. Those stars are really lovely to look at. They twinkle like diamonds in the sky. I laughed at my silliness as I remember the nursery rhyme.
