I've never apparated before.
As a child I had always dreamed my first time would be somewhere romantic and exciting. I used to imagine myself travelling to the coast to see the sun rising over the horizon, or deep into a forrest where I could get lost in my thoughts.
But that just wasn't meant to be. The very first place I travelled to was the last place on earth I wanted to go to.
"Malfoy Manor." Snape said cooly.
In front of me stood the biggest home I had ever seen. Home didn't seem to quite suit it, this place looked like a palace.
The pathway was lined with gargantuan hedges, making me feel like the property was trying to swallow us whole. The dull stones towered above us into sharp peaks against a blackening sky. There didn't seem to be one trace of life here among the severe building. Nothing to suggest that this was a home. The manor reeked of indulgence and flaunted its wealth in every detail of its construction.
No wonder he's so entitled.
Severus chuckled lightly at my thought, no longer worried about the immediate retaliation from me. Reading my thoughts had turned out to be a blessing with this man after all.
As Snape started towards the door, I found myself frozen in place. My legs were quivering and my heartbeat raced as the reality of this moment finally sank in. Noticing I fell behind, Severus rushed back to my side. He took my hands in his and pulled me close.
"I will do everything in my power to keep you safe, I promise." He spoke softly as I buried myself within his black robes. My voice was barely a whisper as I tried to reply.
"I'm so scared."
He held me even tighter and sighed heavily. "Me too." I looked into his dark eyes, searching for some glimmer of hope. But it seemed he was just as uncertain about this as I was. What if this was our last day together? I felt myself plummeting into despair as I realized all the things Severus and I may never get to do should we die here today.
It's now or never.
Realizing that this may be my only moment to tell him how I really feel, I took a sharp inhale and let it out.
"I love you, Severus."
His eyes quickly filled with tears as what I said sunk in. "I have loved you from the start, Katie." He said through a broken voice.
With the passion of a lovers last goodbye, we kissed.
We held one another as closely as possible while our tears fell onto each others cheeks. Neither of us dared to let go for fear of never feeling the other again.
"How sweet." A sharp, snarky voice spat from the doorway.
Turning our heads to the sound, I was quickly overcome with anger. Of course Lucius Malfoy would be the one to ruin this moment. Holding tightly on to Snape's hand, I shot a look of hate towards the blonde wizard.
"Lovely to see you too, Miss Cross." Malfoy sneered as he slowly made his way towards Severus and I. The stones on the path crunched under his feet as his voice slithered just a little too close to me. "Fear not, pet. We're only getting started with you. There will be plenty of time for your little romance later." As he finished his words we were nearly nose to nose.
"Severus." He spat in greeting as he shot a look towards Snape.
Snape's eyes burned with a hatred I hadn't seen since the Yule Ball. Once again his wand was at Malfoy's throat, ready to dispel of the man forever.
