Reuben.
"..... And? Is she dead now?" I asked Gilbert in an indifferent manner as I was being reported of the recent events that took place in the castle.
"Yes Your Majesty. Countess Wroth and her grandson had been dragged to the gallows by the earliest of daybreak the very next day and were executed." Gilbert nodded his head solemnly.
"Hah!(Scoff) It seems Beatrice couldn't wait to get rid of the Countess this time." Otherwise, the transgressions of two eminent nobles would have to go through many complicated trials and verdicts before coming to the last resort of execution. It clearly reeked of the Queen Dowager's stench since they were put to death without so much as a trial.
"Yes Your Majesty. It looks like this incident this time was related to the Princess." Gilbert answered.
"Hmm, no wonder she was so impulsive in her move." I smiled to myself.
I looked down and reopened the folded piece of paper and smiled lightly at the messy words scribbled on the fragile piece of crumpled note.
"If you're reading this, I'm beautiful and you're an asshole."
'Truly remarkable', I thought. Her petite puffy red crossed face came into my mind's eye and I couldn't help but smile a bit broader. I never could have imagined my lady to be such an able person when put in a tight situation. She was capable enough to inflict such a fatal blow on the Queen Dowager, I was truly convinced now that she was proficient enough to shoulder my burdens along with me.
I folded back the note and put it inside of my pocket and looked back at Gilbert, "Gilbert, next time you want to make Lizzy bent to your will, add up a few more piles of books to her schedule."
Gilbert chuckled in response and bowed his head in deep apprehension, "Understood My Majesty."
"Now then," The smile on my lips dimmed as I asked, "Have you caught Viscount Groundert yet?"
"Yes Your Majesty, we have him in our custody." Gilbert bobbed his head in accord.
"Alright, I understand. Where was he fleeing to in such a hurry?" I puckered my brows at the thought.
"To answer Your Majesty, he was fleeing towards the southern sea borders, towards the edges of the port city according to my knowledge." Said Gilbert.
"Hmm, did he have any ships awaiting him to deport him out of the country?" I asked.
"No Your Majesty, according to my knowledge, we do not know of any such ships that are about to set sail out of the country illegally." Gilbert informed.
"....Hmmm, then what was he going to do in the sea port city? Rent a ship and escape the country?" I knitted my brows suspiciously; this matter didn't seem to be as simple as it looked.
"I suspect there to be something much deeper hidden underneath his moves, Sire." Gilbert had the same thoughts as me, but before we could go any further with this theory, one of my knights barged into my office in a haste.
"My lord, Viscount Groundert wants an appointment with you urgently." The knight announced and I raised a brow to that.
"Did he say why he would want an appointment with me?" I asked in apathy.
"No my lord, he did not say anything else. He just said that he shall not open his mouth until you agree to meet him." The knight informed.
"Oh? Does he think he will not be beheaded if he refuses to say anything?" I smiled lightly.
