The next day ted went to school. As he was walking down the hallway his mind was racing about the next day. He always told everyone including the teacher's that he would never go to prom but ted also knew that if he didn't he would be stuck at his house alone all night. But by the time he got to his locker he had made uo his mind again. He wouldn't be going. He didn't want to be humiliated. He grabbed the locker nob and turned it left then right then hack left making shure to pass zero. He slowly counted the last few ticks untill he got it just right. He opened the locker and out dropped something. Ted never put anything in his locker beside his bag. He picked it up and found it was a card. It had a heart on it. Ted opened it up letting his curiosity getting the best of him. Inside the letter was a picture of a duck and under it was in small print. A messege. Ted read it to himself just above a whisper.
"It's ok. I like the lame ducks." Ted read. Ted took his bag off tossing it in his locker not taking his eyes off the letter. He read it one last time then tossed it in the locker. He shut it and turned to go to his first class of the day but bumped into brooklyn.
"Oh, Brooklyn. I'm so sorry." Ted said stepping back.
"It's ok ted. Calm down." Brooklyn said. Ted froze.
"What you mean? I'm calm." Ted lied. Brooklyn rolled her eyes and smiled.
"Your so lame ted I swear." She said then took off down the hallway to whatever class she was in. Ted just stood there still froze watching her go. Then he heard a voice that brought him back to life.
"Oh my god ted!" Ted heard. He turned around to see conner.
"What?" Ted asked with a confused expression.
"Dude you totally like brooklyn! This is grate now you can go to prom with the rest of us!" Conner said excitedly. Ted shook his head and started walking down hallway. Conner decided to follow him and press the situation.
"Ted, my man. I saw it all go down. You froze dude." Conner said looking at ted.
"No I didn't. I just didn't feel like moving." Ted tryed. Conner shook his head.
"Whatever man. I saw what I saw. You like her and if Im correct you like her too." Conner said patting ted on the shoulder. After that he turned down a different hallway and left ted to his thoughts. Did he like brooklyn? He walked to his next class. Just like the rest of his classes he hated this one too. He started thinking about what conner had said. He didn't really know how he felt about brooklyn. He didn't really care either. He already decided he wasn't going to prom. It's always been like that. Ted was busy thinking and staring off into space. He was still doing it when his teacher, Mr. Morlax, called on him. Dragging him out of his thoughts.
"Ted? Did you hear me?" Mr. Morlax asked. Ted shook his head and looked up at hi teacher. He had his arms crossed and didn't look haply. Ted quickly looked at the board in the front of the room hoping to find anything to help him. He found nothing. Then he got an idea he pointed across the room.
"Honestly, mr. Morlax, I have nothing to add to his statement." Ted said. He could only hope it made sense. His teacher thought about the answer he received and decided it was acceptable. With that ted went back to his thoughts. It wasn't long before the class ended and ted was once again free to walk in the halls. He decided to stop at his locker to switch binders for his next class. When he made it there and opened it he switched his binder and was about to leave but seen the card out of the conner of his eyes. He picked it up and started his walk to his last class. The last class usually went by fast for ted. It was science class. His favorite class. But today it wasn't. He was looking down at the note. Reading it over and over. He wished he could figure out who sent it. He couldn't think of anyone. He didn't know a whole lot of people outside conner, tyler, and sarah. He re read the note once again and thought of Brooklyn. No matter what he was thinking it could always be traced back to her. Then the bell rang letting the school know school was over. The bell made Ted jump. He looked at the clock unable to believe class went by so fast. He grabbed all of his stuff then walked out of the classroom meeting up with Conner and sarah.
"What's that?" Sarah said pointing to the note ted had in his hand. He slipped it in his pocket and shrugged.
"Nothing important." He answered. Conner and sarah shrugged and walked off with ted following close behind. They walked out by the tree and waited for tyler to meet them.
"So ted, should I tell sarah about your episode with Brooklyn?" Conner said giving him a sly smirk..
"Episode? What are you talking about?" Sarah asked confused. She was also a little excited to hear what conner had to say.
"Well it seems that ted likes brooklyn." Conner said. Sarah looked over at ted.
"Really?" She said smiling wide. Ted shook his head.
"No. I don't. He thinks that because I didn't move from where I was standing when I was talking to her. He says I froze." Ted said using air quotations. Sarah rolled her eyes. Before the conversation could go any further tyler walked over to the tree.
"Where were you at? What took so long?" Ted asked as he walked closer.
"Just had some stuff to work on but it's done." Tyler said they all looked at each other.
"This cant end well." Sarah said. They all laughed a little and started walking home.
