I slowly dragged my feet up the steps of my house, Darry was going to be pissed. I opened the door to see him there in his chair just sitting there waiting for me. He looked up, his ice blue eyes cutting through me.

“You were late again?” he asked, I shrugged and didn’t look at him

“Yeah, sorry.” I muttered

“Sorry doesn’t cut it Lilly, its stupid things like this that could make you, Pony and Soda all end up in some orphanage!” he yelled. I turned around and started to walk to the door, I wasn’t going to take this. “Where do you think your going?” Darry asked angrily, I looked back at him.

“I’m leaving.” I said simply as I walked out the door.

When I finally got to the lot it was dusk. It was cold but I had a jacket on and I was nice and warm. I sat down on the bench and leaned my head against a light pole and let my mind wander.

Darry never used to yell at me, or Ponyboy. But ever since our parents died he’s gotten a lot more strict about everything. But Darry never yells at Soda. He always calls him little buddy and never gets mad, not even when Soda dropped out of high school. Darry and Pony always fight though. Pony and me are really close, he understands me better than Darry or Soda do. Pony is only two years older than me, I’m fourteen and he’s sixteen.

I stood up and shook the thoughts out of my head. It was getting darker and it was a Friday night, the streets weren’t safe anymore. I put my hood up and started to walk home. Hopefully Darry would have cooled off by now.  I walked up to my house and up onto the old porch. I slowly opened the door and walked in, all my brothers friends were sitting in the living room, I forgot Friday is poker night. They all looked at me when I came in,

“Hey Lilly.” Pony said putting down his cards and looking at me.

“Hey.” I mumbled going up to the stairs to my room. I flopped down on my bed and tried to fall asleep, Darry was at work tonight, he always took the late shift.

I don’t know how long I was asleep but when I woke up my throat was really dry. I threw the covers off me and walked downstairs. As I turned the corner into the kitchen I herd the sink running, that’s weird. I poked my head through the doorway and saw someone in my kitchen. And I knew for a fact that this wasn’t one of my brothers! I started to back up and head upstairs to get my brothers when my foot caught something and I fell on the ground.

The figure turned their head and started to walk towards me, I jumped up and sprinted up the stairs screaming.

“Darry, Pony, Soda!!” I screamed as I burst into the Pony and Soda’s bedroom. They were both wide eyed and rushed over to me.

“What’s wrong?” Darry said urgently as he bounded into the room.

“There is somebody in the kitchen and he started to come at me.” I whispered, Ponyboy laughed and we all looked at him.

“That’s just Benny Boy, he’s a new friend of mine and he needed a place to crash.” I could feel my face getting red.

“Ponyboy when I go downstairs and see strange men in my kitchen you expect me to just be okay with it?” I almost screamed, Soda shushed me

“Calm down, Lilly. Lets just go downstairs and tell Ben this was just a misunderstanding.” I nodded as we all walked down the stairs into the living room. Darry flicked on the switch and light flooded in. On the couch sat a boy not much older than me, his long black hair covered his face, he was wearing a plain black t-shirt and old worn jeans.  He lifted his head and looked at me, he had huge grey eyes.
