"A promise made to see each other again when the sun sets. The young merman couldn't understand it. He should've hate humans. Merpeople are born like that. So why couldn't he hate her? He called her a maiden- might as well him flirting with a future love. What could he do within his limited powers? To see her once more? Or to hide away his fragile heart of his?"

Levi's POV
"Maiden?" I scoffed, swaying my tail angrily as I remember those words I've said. "I promise? Gah, I'm so stupid... so stupid!"
I've never been this dumb before. I shouldn't have fallen for her, yet I am falling. How can I stop myself from falling deeper in this pit I've found myself in. Like a vortex, I'm just being drawn in by force. I can't... stop...
A promise is a promise... I have to follow it through. Whether I liked it or not. I had to follow up on it. What kind of merman would I be if I didn't follow through on a promise I've made? Certainly not a merman I would like to be.

"You hid the gold?" Farlan asked when he swam up to me. Isabel wasn't here with him, so I assume she was hiding in our temporary hideout. I responded with a head nod. "Good, let's go."
During our swim to the hideout, I kept quiet. Apparently it wasn't normal for me to be this quiet.
"Levi, something happened on land or something?"
"Nothing happened." I scowled, quickening my pace. Of course, I remember I didn't know where the hideout was, so I fell behind Farlan once more. "I hid the gold in a good place. Apparently humans didn't discover a hidden cave that had an opening on top."
"How did you know it wasn't discovered?"
"It was like an empty volcano. No entry way inside. Besides, I'm not an idiot to just hide the gold in plain sight. I hid it well."
"Sorry we took so long- hopefully you didn't run into any humans..."
My eyes rolled when I thought of Hanji. "Yeah... good thing... I guess..."
Swimming for awhile until Farlan stopped in his tracks. He turns around with such a different tone. "Levi, don't tell you met a human... please don't tell me..."
"It's not going to affect us, Farlan. My heart is still loyal to the sea."
"Levi- there are things not adding up!" He shouts, grabbing me by my shoulders. "You tasted human blood when the mating season is near! That makes it worse for you! I mean, because we never kissed anyone lately- for me at least- mating season isn't that bad! I don't even feel the effects of it! But you... you're probably going to be writhing in pain."
"Thanks for the encouragement, Farlan." I scowled, swimming away from him.
"What are you even going to do? Lock yourself in a cage or something? Or are you going back to that human and-"
"Do you think she'll be my mate? Of course not, Farlan! She's human- I'm a merman. We can't be together. We live in these two separate worlds for a reason." But she truly did look beautiful. I wish that she was a mermaid too... so we wouldn't have this problem. But even if she was a mermaid, there are countless other mermen she could've chosen that wasn't me. "Farlan, I'll be fine when the week comes."
Farlan seemed to not believe me. "I've seen mermen in heat and they didn't have someone to mate with. They look pretty bad, Levi. Are you sure you'll be fine?"
"I'll figure it out when the time comes closer. Right now... I rather not deal with it now."
"Levi-"
"Let's just go, alright? Straight ahead?" Farlan's attempts at bringing the subject back up again had failed. In my mind, I was tracing out the way to get back to shore to that Hanji woman.
Am I really doing this? Meeting with a human once more? What if she brings more people to observe me? No, we had a promise. Is she willing to break that promise? I have to have some sort of hope for the humans.
But mating season is drawing near. I've never been in that sort of heat because... well, I'm too busy to be having a nice mermaid by my side. And it's not like we mate for life. Jeez... as much as I hate to admit it... that human stole my heart. Now I can't get her out of my head.
Her voice, her touch- even her strength is getting on my nerves.
A merman like me can never mate with a human like her, right? I'm probably wrong about that, aren't I?
