"George and I are heading off to the quidditch pitch.." Fred started
"would you like to come along?" George asked with hope.
"I will only agree if we are going to race, and also I am going to win, LOSERS" Lana screamed, already running toward the field.
George watched her for a moment, she was beautiful, her deep brown hair trailing behind her, and whipping in her face as she looked back at them. "oh come on!" Fred demanded. George was put out of his trance. As he ran, his mind was full of thoughts *she's my best friend, I can't, no I won't ruin this friendship for us*. But he couldn't help but wonder what could have been.
...
Everyone mounted their brooms and rode up about 100 meters before stopping at one end of the field.
"Alright, boys.." Lana started, she was sandwiched in between them. "..whoever makes it to the other side of the pitch the quickest wins."
"And what does the winner get?" George asked "asking for myself"
"uhhhh bragging rights," Lana said bluntly
"Lame," Fred complained
"Oh shut it. Ready?" they all nodded. "set, FLY"
All three of them shot forward, Fred cut off Lana, which earned him a middle finger and some yelling, George trailing him, literally (he was holding on to the trail of Freds broom, waiting to propell himself forward at the last second), which left Lana at last. This, of course, was not surprising due to the fact that she had only learned to ride a month ago, but the twins did not know that, which made it even more embarrassing when she horribly lost. Fred had won, and he did not turn down his right to brag, nagging both George and Lana until they reached the ground.
"You know what," Lana suggested "us 'l o o s e r s' need a little break from all the Fred energy here. Would you like to go on a walk with me George?" This was her moment, an opening, and an opportunity to get some alone time with him if he only would say...
"yes." George answered "I'd love to.... i mean I'd love to get away from freds ego.."
...
Both of them made their way up the hill, down the hallway, and into the garden, taking a seat on a bench.
"You looked pretty rough out there you know that?" George pointed out
"really? thats what you want to talk about?"
"well, i mean.."
"I guess I haven't ridden a broom in a while"
It started to sprinkle.
"oh shi-" Lana stood up
She started jogging towards the covered hallway when George grabbed her hand. She turned around to face him, he was soaked by the falling rain, and there they stood, looking at each other for a second. Their bodies were so close that she could feel his warm breath against her face as she looked up at him and he looked down at her. Suddenly he broke the silence and looked away, "Uh Fred must be wondering where I am."
"Oh yes of course, you should go."
So he left her, standing there in the rain. Now, hail pelted against her face making it raw as she looked at the ground where he previously stood. That was supposed to be their moment, and it was gone.
