pacemaker [p. jisung]

사십육; 𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙮 𝙨𝙞𝙭

the two walked down the dark street in utter silence, no one having courage to break the ice. the tension was uncomfortable between the two, much for their liking. the only sound heard were their footsteps and that itself was barely heard.

jisung wanted to reach out to jeonhae but something about the way her face looks so dull kept him from asking. remembering seri's words, he decided against his will to ask the girl beside him as he could only watch her with a face full of worry. 

jeonhae also wanted to talk to jisung, but upon remembering that everyone's lives depend on her had put a heavy burden on her shoulders. as much as she wanted to voice out to the boy, it was as if her lips were sewn shut.

not caring anymore, jisung turned his head to face jeonhae before asking, "what happened back there? are you okay? you know you can tell me anything." however, all he got in response was a silent shake of her head. he didn't know whether it meant that she wasn't okay or she didn't want to talk about when in reality, it was both.

at last, they both parted ways to their homes without another word. jeonhae tidied her hair and clothes before preparing herself to meet again with the people she call home. the moment she opened the door, her mother immediately went rushing towards her.

"jeonhae sweetie, how was your date today?" 

the said girl plastered a fake smile, "it was great! we went to the movies and had lunch, then strolled around the park for a bit before heading for some dinner." jeonhae didn't really feel comfortable lying right off the bat, but it was the only way to keep her family safe, or so she thought for now.

"i'm really tired, i should go to bed now" the lie smoothly rolled out of her tongue, as if she'd done it millions of times. she went up the flight of stairs and as soon as the door was locked, she cried. yes, ryu jeonhae cried.

the tears slid down her cheeks like a waterfall; nonstop. her quiet sobs filled the silent space, the sound resonating off the walls of her bedroom. "jisung, i am so sorry.." she trailed off, continously blaming herself for what happened. 

"and it's not your fault that we're here. it's not your fault that you weren't able to complete the mission. none of this is your fault to begin with. there's nothing for you to be sorry about. don't be sorry that we're in this shitty shed. don't be sorry that i had to face my dad again. don't be sorry for the things you never did."

"most of the time, people would only see the flaws in their wrongs. they never consider that their wrongs will help them to reflect, but when they do, they'll nurture. be better people, live better lives, and do better things. so jeonhae, look on the bright side. you did nothing wrong, it's not your fault, and there's nothing for you to be sorry about."

upon remembering jisung's words, she said one last sorry before her lips etched a sad smile. jeonhae then entered the bathroom, ready to take a nice warm bath after all the shit she just went through.

meanwhile, jisung walked down the street lifelessly. as soon as he parted ways with the girl, he felt lost; disconnected.  something didn't sit right with the way jeonhae acted after they were set free, as if she was...scared. it was a new side of jeonhae. i mean, not that jisung has seen any of jeonhae's sides except the scary one and the happy one. this side, however, just felt...different.

this jeonhae isn't as courageous as usual, isn't as lively as usual. there wasn't the glimmer in her eyes, the normal look just wasn't there. something was definitely off, and jisung was determined to figure out what. he doesn't care whether it will take him days, weeks, months, or in the worst case scenario, years. he was reminded of the words seri said,

" jisung baby, we're getting married. "

those five words disgusted the boy so much that he wanted to erase them from his mind forever. he was curious of consequences seri meant, but whatever it is, he knew they were serious threats, considering that they were kidnapped just to be told that. it just signifies that they weren't joking about whatever they're planning.

the boy didn't even realized he had arrived home and ignored the words of his aunt, whom was quite worried for her nephew. jisung sighed as he stood up from his bed and took his pajamas from the wardrobe, then headed to the bathroom. 

maybe a nice warm shower could help get things out of my mind.

he stripped off his shirt, revealing his slightly toned stomach. unfortunately, that wasn't the only thing there. spots of purple covered parts of his upper body, reminding of the fight they had before the two were drugged and brought to that shitty shed. 

the boy ruffled his hair in frustration, clearly not liking the current events. he might've scratched his head a bit too hard, making some parts of head slightly bleed. he didn't care though, as he stared at his reflection in the mirror before breaking contact with the other him.

just when i thought there would be no more bullshit happening, drama comes in. let's see what tomorrow has in store.
