It's been three days since the Queen's head rolled to my fin. Three days since Marion and Spyra killed the Queen. Three days since I made the biggest mistake of my life. And today I'm taking the woman, I pretty much killed's, place. As Queen. This is the story leading up to this...
I'm roaming around the palace halls, it's the day after Spyra attacked me in my sleep. The hallway I'm swimming down is dark, I want to get out. There's a smash behind me, followed by a loud groan. I bolt over to where the sound came from, I see Marion, but without her sunglasses. There's no eyes, just blue marbles. I gasp. Marion smiles evilly at me. Suddenly I'm grabbed from behind, a hand on my mouth. I writhe around in their grip, thinking I'm getting free but then Marion swims up and injects my tail with a needle that has weird yellow stuff in it. My tail turns limp. There isn't any escape. I'm brought into a dark room at the end of the hall, I hear muffled noises. I'm close enough that I'm able to hear what they say if was quiet. But that didn't happen because Marion makes as much noise as she can. She slams her tail against the walls many, many, many times. I press my ear against the wall that the muffled noises were coming from. I realized they aren't words, just noises. As if someone's mouth had been taped shut. I feel around the wall, testing if there's an opening. I find a soft spot in the wall and start pushing. The small part of the wall moves for me. I drag myself into this room, waiting for my eyes to adjust to the darkness. The muffled noises sound like muffled screams now. As my eyes adjust, a figure on the ground in front of me appears. It's the Queen! I drag myself closer and untie her hands. She rips off the seaweed wrapped around her mouth, gasping with relief that she can talk.
"It's the two that threatened to kill me!" The Queen whispers frantically.
"I know." I whisper. The Queen is shaking. "Calm down" I hiss at her.
Suddenly the lights went on, and Spyra and Marion swam in.
"Vera. Queen or family?" Spyra asks me.
"What do you mean?!?" I ask
"I mean, do you want the Queen to live, or your family to live."
"The Queen is my family! She's my aunt!" I say.
"Ah, I guess you've found away around us." Spyra looks at Marion behind her. I can't hear what she said."
"So I pick family!" I say, proud that I could find a loophole.
Spyra presses a button near the rock door, suddenly all the water leaves the room. I shapeshift quickly into a human. Spyra and Marion have squeezed their transformation balls. They toss one to the Queen, she transforms into a woman.
"If that is your final choice..."
Spyra steps forward, holding a long knife in her hand. She walks over to me, lunging at my neck. I shut my eyes in the split second I have to react. Suddenly Marion screams. I'm spattered with blood. I open my eyes, I see Marion on the floor, blood streaming from her stomach. The Queen has gotten a hold of Spyra's blade. She slices Spyra's throat and then the Queen falls to the floor. She has had her back facing me. I try to walk forward, I have feeling in my legs now. I crouch down beside the Queen, her chest is pouring out blood.
"NO!" I scream.
"Shh..." The Queen manages.
"Thank you for coming into my life, even if it was only a short while. I love you Vera, take good care of the kingdom." The Queen's eyes flicker and the light dies out.
Almost like a candle. And now that her candle is out, mine will have a chance to shine brighter.
I am now the Queen.
