Author's note: Hiiiii Yippeee! Mermaid stories for everyone! It's me Everfire (Amanda) and I will be doing Vera's part of this story ^•^Vera's POV
3 days from now. That's when my Change Ceremony is. And I'm freaking nervous. I really want to be with Kylvern, my werewolf boyfriend. But, I really don't want to be a werewolf. I either want to be a Nymph or a Mermaid. I don't really want to get my hopes up about being a Rarity. Rarities are all in the name, amazing, rare Changeling occurrences. But you've only got 1/10000 chance of being a Rarity. My mother thought my older sister Lioka would be a Rarity, but she ended up being a Nymph.
I'm running through my favourite forest again, spending my every living land moment here, since this may be the last three days I get to spend in it. Suddenly I trip over a loose root, and my mouth gets filled with the soft and wild earth. I savour it for a second before spitting it all out. It would probably be taken by crazy for someone living on the other side (humans) but when it's your last three days in the place you've spent most of your life and love, it's most definitely not crazy.
I kneel and start to brush off most of the grime. I get up quickly and continue on my run.I finish off in my secret hollow, a massive tree, not sure what type because I really don't care but it's a big strong tree that must have been hollowed out and furnished years ago, but has since been deserted. When I walk around the back and ready myself to kick the moss away from the trap door as usual, I find that it's already shoved away. A flutter of panic in my chest. A heart beat not my own pounding. I notice these things, I'm not alone.
I look around quickly and see a large branch sticking out from the bushes. I snatch it and warily open the trap door. As soon as it's open I can see eyes glowing from the darkness, in fact it's a whole body glowing in the dark. A Nymph. She's beautiful, obviously a light Nymph. Her hair is longer than her hips and her face is perfect. But she's whimpering.
I reach above her head nervously but manage to turn on the light without her biting me or worse. She's immediately not glowing. I can see the tears running down her cheeks, and she's covered in scratches. I check her Change Symbol that's on everyone who's Changed's wrists. It's not there.
