Odette slammed her book shut, causing dust to trickle down the pages and onto my bed, "have you gotten your letter yet, I've been waiting for ages and our jobs are supposed to start tomorrow!" She slid off the bed walking over to the letterbox, hastily rummaging through air as there was nothing inside.

"I'm sure they will arrive by tonight." I unenthusiastically told her, Turing another page of my book slowly. If it were my choice I would not want a job at all for the summer.

"Look I know you don't want to do this but we've requested to have the same workplace together, so think of it as a sleepover every day." Odette attempted to make this more exciting than it was, she was always so sweet.

"Um yeah, okay." I sniggered, tossing my book to the side whilst picking up hers for her and putting it into the draw.

"Stop being so negative all the time, this can be fun and were going to get money for it!" Her hands grabbed mine shaking them to try and get me more enthused.

"I'm only doing it for the money and the fact that you're going to be there." I tore my hands away from here's, unintentionally making her thud on the wooden floors.

Her hand shot up at mine, pulling me down with her, "don't think that you can do that and not get dragged along with me!" She laughed, picking up a pillow hitting me playfully.

We pillow fought on the floor making our hair go frizzy till multiple pecks and the window brought our attention back, "do you think that could be-?" Little Odettes eyes sparkled with glee.

I, on the other hand, although at first not interested, was somehow intrigued to find out what could be in those letters, "I'll get it." I said, stumbling over the cushions which, were used as weapons in are little play fight.

Trapped outside was an inky coloured owl flapping its wings so hard that I could feel the gust of wind flying at me through the window. I opened the glass allowing the bird to sit on my desk and drop the two parchments of paper.

Analysing the letters, they were both sealed tightly in black envelopes stamped with a silver sticker engraved with the letter M, and on the side was my name and Odette's.

"We will both open them on the count of three," Odette stated, picking up her envelope from the table causing the owl to fly away.

"Okay, maybe I'm a little bit excited to see what it is," I admitted to her.

"I knew you would be, you ready?" We both Straightened out our letters ready to open easily. "1...2...3!"

Ripping open the letter leaving the torn bits of black paper to float down to the floor, I unfolded my letter with my fingers slipping under the corners to see if I could reveal what was inside any faster.
