'Rick! Rick' Shane was striding towards the group ferociously, blood streaming down his face. He looked like a walker. It seemed odd that he had been gone so long and no one had noticed. After what had happened with Dale it was becoming increasingly important to stay in at least pairs. No one had cared where Shane was let alone questioned it.
'What happened?' Lori yelled to him. Something involving his nose, probably.
'He's armed! He's got my gun!' It was clear people were starting to panic about the Randall situation, which was strangely exactly what Shane had wanted several days ago. Lucy was very sceptical already and the whole fiasco had only just begun.
'Are you okay?'
'I'm fine, little bastard just snuck up on me, clocked me in the face.' The man with the world's worst limp had snuck up on Shane? Sure, Shane had been having a bad time lately but there was no way he would have been distracted enough to not hear the shuffle and thump of Randall hobbling around.
'Hershel, T-Dog, get everyone back in the house.' Rick started barking orders. 'Glenn, Daryl, come with us, and Lu-'
'Lucy, stay and keep watch,' Shane interrupted. pointing to the house and staring daggers at her.
'No, I'm coming,' she said, making herself clear. She looked between him and Rick, knowing without a doubt that Shane was up to something. Everyone else was too caught up with trying to keep each other safe. She didn't care enough to do that yet. She was clear headed and saw right through him.
'We need someone strong enough to protect everyone else, and there's no one better than you to do that. There ain't time to argue this. Go.'
'One minute you want me gone, the next you think I'm Wonder Woman? Nah. I'm coming.' And her say was final. Shane huffed and began walking with the rest of the small group. They entered the forest looking like a dysfunctional A Team, hands on weapons, eyes scanning everything.
'He couldn't have gotten far. He's hobbled, exhausted,' explained Rick, telling them what they already knew.
'And armed,' added Glenn. The boy was scared.
'So are we.' Rick was right, between them they had enough ammunition to kill Randall several times over, which to Lucy seemed unnecessary. Considering the state he had last been seen in it would barely take a tap on the head to kill him. 'Can either of you track him?'
'No, I don't see nothing,' Daryl said, checking the ground for scrapes and prints. Lucy shook her head, seeing nothing except their own footsteps. She didn't like the situation at all.
'Hey, look, there ain't no use in tracking him, ok? He went that way, we just need to split up, we spread out. We just chase him down, that's it.' Shane seemed way to eager to hunt Randall down. The way he paced and the way he spat his words out didn't seem right. The hit to his head must have been hard.
'Kid was a buck-25 soaking wet, you trying to tell us he got the jump on you?' Finally Daryl was starting to question him too, saying what she was thinking.
'I say a rock pretty much evens those odds, wouldn't you?'
'I say a limp and exhaustion un-evens those odds, hm?' Lucy added. If Shane was going to lie about this he was going to have to make himself look like an idiot doing so.
'Alright, alright. Knock it off. You, Lucy and Glenn start heading up the right flank,' Rick told Daryl. 'Me and Shane will take the left.'
'Lucy should come with us,' Shane chipped in. Lucy was about to sigh when he continued. 'A tracker on both teams. Even the odds.' It was the first good point he'd made.
