### "You Need to Give It Up" - Revised Chapter

#### Kayla's POV:

"Fight for what you want."

"Don't give her the satisfaction."

"If you love her, why hurt her, Kayla?"

"You're going to regret letting her go."

"Why do you let her control you so much?"

"If she loved you, why does she manipulate you?"

"She probably isn't even pregnant."

I woke up confused, feeling the dryness of my throat. I slipped out of bed quietly so as not to wake Asia and headed to the kitchen for a glass of water. As I sipped, I checked my phone and scrolled through my feed. The urge to check her Twitter overtook me, and I swallowed my pride to see if she'd posted anything about her feelings. Nothing. This girl tweets constantly, and the moment she goes silent, something's wrong. Did I break her heart? Was this my fault? I pushed the thoughts away before they could overwhelm me.

In the living room, I rolled a blunt, feeling my stress rise. Lighting it, I took a long drag, hoping my problems would dissipate with the smoke.

#### Alex's POV:

"I hurt my own feelings every time I think of you. I roll my eyes at the thought of having you because it seems so unlikely. Moving on never feels right, so I end up waiting for you. I check your page, knowing you post your feelings, but even if you didn't, I'd still worry. This thing we have is toxic, but it could be peaceful if we fixed it."

I closed my notebook after writing a small entry, planning to finish it later. Stepping onto the balcony, I contemplated my next move. Should I chase after her or give up? Lost in thought, I realized how much she'd affected my life. I used to stay up to ensure she was okay and to see her sleep, but that wasn't my role anymore.

10:00 AM: Fresh out of the shower, I was choosing my clothes when I got a message request on Instagram from Asia. "What does she want now?" I muttered, opening the message: "Hey girl, we need to talk. Meet me at the Cheesecake Factory at 12." I wondered if Kayla knew about this but didn't bother asking her. I quickly got dressed.

5 minutes later: I got into my car and sped off.

20 minutes later: I entered the Cheesecake Factory and saw Asia wave me over. I walked to her booth and sat down. "What do you want?"

"Don't be like that, I'm here to chat," she said.

"What do you want, Asia?"

She straightened up. "What will it take for you to leave Kayla alone?"

"Excuse me?"

"She won't leave you alone, and I need you to understand that I don't want her around you. So, what will it take?"

I studied her, searching for any hint of a joke. She was serious. "She's mine, Alex, and I'll keep her to myself whether you like it or not."

"Wow, you'll go to any lengths to keep her under your control, won't you?"

"I will because she is mine."

"And yet she's shared by others," I smirked as her smile faded. "You can't keep her attention for long. She finds ways to escape from you, and she doesn't need me to do it. Do you blame me for her coming to me?"

"I do."

"That's not my problem." I stood up. "There's nothing you can do to keep me away. I'm here for her because I care, not to benefit you. She may be yours, but I've had her in my bed enough to know she has deep feelings for me too." I saw the anger rise in her eyes as I walked out.

Outside, I was tapped on the shoulder. "And you are?"

She smiled. "Tasha."

I was taken aback. "You're Kayla's—"

"Ex? Yes. And also her ex-best friend. I assume she called you here for the same reason."

I nodded. "She has a weakness. She pretends to be strong but doesn't want anyone to see her crumble. She's manipulative."

I nodded again and walked to my car.

20 minutes later: I pulled up to the driveway, picked the lock, and entered the house. Kayla ran out, startled.

"What are you doing here?"

"I had a chat with your little girlfriend and your mistress," I said.

She looked confused. "Tasha, right? Gorgeous, but no fool. Your girlfriend didn't help matters, and are you sure she's pregnant? She was drinking daiquiris."

Kayla was speechless. "For God's sake, KAYLA, speak! Say something!"

She swallowed. "What do you want me to say?"

"Be honest. What is she planning?"

She shrugged. "We haven't talked all day. We argued about me comparing her to Tasha, and she went ballistic because I didn't apologize."

I walked up to her. "I don't know what you see in her, but one day, I hope you do something that benefits you, not her." I left, leaving her in silence.
