The Seacrest pulled into Sky Bay, a harbor port on Hummingbird Island. Greyson tossed the ropes to waiting hands on the docks to tie his boat down.
Sliding out the planks for boarding Greyson helped his first mate with unloading. Hollering at a few dock hands to come and help as he spotted some who were standing about not doing a thing.
Silk, some wine from a famous winery in Ruhn Province, and a few boxes of fruit and vegetables for a local bakery.
A female centaur clopped along the docks with a tray of food hollering "Try some Peach and Banana strudels or some fruit-filled doughnuts."
She was dark-skinned almost black, her hair and tail were tan colored and her hindquarters were blue roanish colored. She had some blue tribal markings on her face and lower torso.
Up and down the dock the centaur handed out samples to those who wished some. Greyson plucked one of the strudels off the tray and bit into it.
His eyes widened as the sugary sweet treat nearly exploded in his mouth. He chewed. It was the perfect blend of sweet peach and mushy Banana with cream cheese. The spices were complimentary as well a bit of cinnamon.
"My God, who made these?" he asked around a second mouthful.
"I did," the centaur replied with a wide smile, "Homemade, been looking to cook for folks but there is just too much competition."
Greyson swallowed his mouthful of strudel and smiled widely.
"I happen to be in need of a Chief Cook. Someone to cook meals for me and my first mate, as well as any crew member who signs up on the Seacrest. Are you interested?"
The centaur's tan colored eyes lit up like a Christmas tree.
"I would love that. When do I start?" she asked.
"I'll be in Sky Bay for two days. So you can move your stuff into the sleeping quarters during that time. Uh... you are okay with being away from home days on end."
"Pfffbted, I haven't been home in three years. I think I can handle being at sea. Can I tour the kitchen?" she asked, "I want to be sure you will have what I need to cook my meals."
Greyson nodded and walked back onto the ship with the centaur behind him. They head down to the galley where the kitchen was located. He let the centaur explore looking in the meager cupboards and stuff.
The kitchen was fairly large, a staple Greyson had been looking for when he had been looking for a ship. Attached and through a hole in the wall was the table and chairs where a crew could sit and relax while waiting for food or taking breaks for coffee or tea.
The centaur clucked her tongue at the meager supplies stored in the kitchen cabinets.
"I see I have a lot to bring. Thankfully, I have most of what I need at home," she declared, turning to Greyson, "My name is Calia Burton by the way. I will get my stuff and bring it over today and then go shopping for supplies."
Greyson shook her hand and nodded, "Sounds good, you will have a fairly good portion of pay and budget as my head cook. So please feel free to come to me when you need anything for the kitchen."
Calia nodded and they left the ship.
All afternoon Calia returned on many occasions with a small cart filled with stuff. Greyson had shown her to her sleeping quarters below deck as well. So she could put clothes away and anything else she would bring.
The next day she had taken the budgeted amount of money that Greyson gave her to fill the kitchen with cooking stuff.
