I sit up, covered in sweat, gasping for breath.
Where am I?
It looks like a decent little room, but it is dark and it's moving up like an elevator, just a lot faster.
Probably it won't take long until it crashes into something and splits up in pieces with me inside.
I'm getting nervous. my hands are wet, I look around trying to find something that could help me getting out of here or something that could stop this ...box from spinning up.
No doors, no windows, just a couple of wooden boxes.
I crawl towards them, unable to walk because the room is shaking and moving up too fast.
Please let something useful be in there. As expected, they are locked. I can't hear myself swearing, everything else around is louder than me.
It's getting lighter and lighter and I scream desperately, knowing that I have less than a minute until this whole thing gets smashed into whatever is up there. With all possible force I can bring up in that moment, I try to open one of the wooden boxes.
Finally, the material cracks a bit.
The light is close, very close.
Only a few seconds until the room will reach it.
Knowing that my last hope might be in there, I slam against the box, again and again.
My hands are hurting like hell, but I don't even think about stopping. The box falls into pieces the moment the high-speed-elevator arrives in the light.
I expected a big explosion, but it doesn't happen anything.
The ceiling lifts up itself und the whole room gets filled with light. I am pressing my eyes together; distracted by the sudden ... I think it is sunshine.
How is that possible? Somebody jumps down into my elevator-box. I can hear voices mumbling.
"It's a girl. It's a bloody girl, again!" Someone calls out. British accent.
Suspiciously, I try to get a look around me, still blended by the sunlight. The shattered wooden box lies next to me, smashed.
I did that.
Where are the things that were inside it? As soon as I see the long black blade lying next to me on the ground, I grab it and pull it in front of me.
"Whoa there, slowly!" The British-accent guy who cleverly noticed that I'm a girl gasps.
My sight gets clearer; the light isn't that disturbing any more.
Lots of boys are standing around the box, a few of them laughing, the others staring at me.
The one who jumped into the box is tall and blonde, he's only standing a few feet away from me and his hands are lifted to show that he's not going to hurt me.
A long and sharp looking machete is strapped around his back. "It's alright. Now put the buggin' blade away."
The other boys are looking at me like I'm some sort of mutant. They don't seem that amused any more.
I'd really like to put the blade away as the blonde guy told me, but I don't want to feel weak and some of the these boys are looking at me like they want to eat me alive or something.
"What's wrong with me? Why are they staring at me like this?" I ask the blonde next to me silently. One of the guys in the first row obviously heart it, he leaps into the box and looks straight into my eyes.
"You know what's shucking wrong, Slinthead? You're the third Greenie in three days, that's wrong. I don't know what's going on here, but it's not alright, okay?" He's walking towards me while spitting these words into my face and I recede shyly.
Before he can talk any further, the British machete-guy interrupts him.
"Shut your hole, Gally. It's not her bloody fault."
Even though Gally seems sturdier than the other boy, he jumps out of the box and leaves me alone as he was told with a furious look on his face.
"Thanks" I say and finally lower my blade a bit.
"I'm Newt" The blonde answers with a little smirk. He looks about sixteen, maybe seventeen.
I want to reply but my mind feels empty. "This is awkward. I don't know my name." I also don't know where I come from, how I got into the box and any information about myself or my family.
"That's normal, you'll remember it soon. We all went through this." Newt gets out of the box and offers me his hand.
"Come on now, Greenie. We'll show you the Glade."
