For a little more time, I stay in the water and rub the dirt and sweat off my skin and clean my hair.
Just when I'm about to get out and dressed,
I feel the earth moving.

The water splashes around as if it was boiling and I feel the vibration going through my entire body.
It's over as suddenly as it started.
I put the clothes back on and run back through the forest.
What if someone is hurt?

As I reach the Glade, all the boys stand calmly around Frypan's kitchen, some of them are talking.
Only Newt isn't with them, he stands next to the opened maze doors.
Of course, the maze doors; they are what caused the earthquake before.

What is he doing there? I hurry to get to him. My hair's still wet.
"Joanna", he says a bit surprised.
"Why aren't you with the others?" I ask gently.
"I...I was about to go there. Alby and Minho just left into the maze."
"Alby's a runner?"
"No, he's not. But he's the first in command, which is why he has to go and retrace Ben's footsteps."
His eyes are heavy with sorrow.
"Then they'll be back this evening." I conclude.
"I hope so." He murmurs. "Come on," I tug at his sleeve lightly. "Let's go and have breakfast."

After breakfast, Newt leads me to the med-jacks.
We walk past the bed where Ben lay just one day before; the bed where I held his hand while he was crying, where I told him everything was going to be alright while he was pleading for his life.
He's probably dead by now, ripped apart by a Griever, left in the maze to die alone.

I look at Newt and get lost in his gaze as I remember what we talked about yesterday.
You shouldn't do that. Fall in love with Ben.
Was I in love? I barely knew him.
Maybe I would have come to love him if he hadn't died, if he hadn't been sick.

But what do I know about love?
Newt notices me staring at him and smiles a bit.
We arrive at the only bed with a girl in it.
Her pale, pretty face is framed by long black hair, the eyes peacefully shut.
"Do you know her?" He asks.
I try to remember, but there's nothing.
So I shake my head no.
"Well, then this visit was pointless." He concludes and I shrug.

"I could show you the buildings you haven't seen yet. What do you say?" Newt proposes and I give him my brightest smile.
"I'd love that."
