"I don't know anyone else for the job but you" I sighed "it's always me. you don't have anyone else to take this one?" In reality, I didn't need the money and I was tired of working continuously. "You never turn down a job Yuuma-san" He was right. Not because of pressure but in reality, I had no idea what to do with my free time. on one hand, work consumed me but on the other, I was grateful it did. "Fine" I swiped the card out of his hand. " I knew I could count on you" he smirked. "Whatever. it's not like I have anything better to do". He walked out of the room and waved goodbye. "Alright then. I'm off" I waved my hand shooing him out of my apartment.

I walked over to my laptop placing the card on top of the flat device connected to the screen. The target's name and background information came up. The pay wasn't amazing but the job seemed simple enough. Alright well, I guess I should start looking for the man.

A Few Days Later

I had been following this guy for a few days now. I knew he was a deadbeat villain from his black card. But still, all he does is drink at bars and deal with cheap drugs. Doesn't change the fact he's wanted though. For murder as well so I couldn't turn down the job. He doesn't deserve to be having fun. Not that I do anyway.

I leaned my head to look over the corner. He was with a group of lackeys. They never left his side which was a bit inconvenient for me. My quirk wasn't necessarily bad for dealing with multiple people but I just preferred to stay clean and I wasn't in the mood to cause a blood bath especially if it wasn't necessary.

My eye caught someone a few hundred feet behind the group. He stood out immediately. I didn't need to be Einstein to know he was a villain. The group turned into an alleyway where I lost sight of them. The man followed right behind them. I ran across the street and leaned against the building turning my head to look down the alleyway.

"We don't need guys like this" the man spat out. Before I could even blink blue flames escaped his hands as they filled my field of vision. Their screams filled my ears like nails against a chalkboard. "Get down. If you're trash at least burn and be kindling for me" He stood over their rotting flesh. A smell I knew all too well. I walked out into the open at the entrance of the alleyway. He turned around to face me. "Sorry, but I can't have anyone knowing I'm here" he raised his hand and flames flew in my direction. I activated my quirk and walked over to my target. I kneeled down and saw his hand had yet to melt. I grabbed the ring that enveloped his middle fingers and slid it off.

"I couldn't care less who you are," I said. I didn't face him but I could tell he had turned around. Agitation. Or maybe anxiety oozing off his body. He was clearly confused as to why I was still alive. I felt warmth once again and activated my quirk before his flames reached me. I walked past him stopping right behind him deactivating my quirk once more.

"I don't know why you would try that again when it so noticeably failed the first time". He grinded his teeth a bit. His calm demeanor I had seen earlier had seemed to disappear and he was now angry. "Who are you," he asked in a pleading manner that he tried to hide. "You don't need to know. But thank you for making my job easier" I lifted my hand swinging the ring around my fingers. I walked away and turned the corner. When he came following after me all he was faced with was an empty street.

I stood there looking at him but he wouldn't be able to see me no matter how hard he looked. I internally laughed turning around and leaving him behind. I turned the corner and let out a big breath. I looked down at the ring now in my palm. Well, at least I didn't have to kill anyone. He might not have known it but that man saved me from a hassle.

I reached into my pocket and pulled out my burner phone or should I say work phone. "It's done where do you want the evidence sent" the other line stayed quiet for a bit. "Tadashi? Hello I don't have all day here"

"You're not gonna like what I'm gonna say next" he sighed

"What is it?"

"There's a black card issued for Torashi"

"As in one of the main families?"

"Yes"

"Well I don't see how that's my problem"

"They assigned it to you"

I scoffed "Excuse me?"

"Well that's what I was told but you know I'm just the messenger" I gritted my teeth with anger "I know you don't want to do it but think about it, It's not that ba-" I shut the cell phone. My name might be protected right now but if I kill Torashi they'll hunt me down. There's only so much my quirk can do for me. I need to go see him and deal with this bullshit.

I kicked the shoji-style door down with ease. "If you break my things you pay for them"

"I could care less" I said in a calm demeanor. I didn't want him to see through my anger. I looked down at him. He sat around a small table with a renju board in front of him. He was old enough to be my father but his looks never seemed to diminish.

"Since you came to my home I assume you got the news"

"Yeah, I did. Why am I assigned to the case."

"You're the most capable of our assets at the moment. You should be thanking me the payout is over 25 million yen" my eyes widened. I hung up before Tadashi was able to tell me. "Guess you didn't know that"

"You know what'll happen if people find out I killed him?"

"They won't"

"How can you assure me of that?"

"You're dead. Well, technically you don't exist. No one under this organization does."

"I know I'm not in the system but neither are half the criminals out there. I need a sure way to know my identity and safety aren't going to be comprised if I go through with this"

"Well. Usually, this is confidential information but since this is such a big payout for us as well I can let you in."

"Let me in on what?"

"It's his own that want him dead" My eyes widened. I didn't expect that

"Turns out he's been causing trouble for the other big 4." I sighed and looked back up to meet his eyes. Empty. Not that I expect anything different from a man that made a living off of murder. I can't say much though, I'm doing the same. But I can't do anything else. I don't exist in the government system anymore. It's not like I could just get a job. Even if I did, it probably wouldn't be enough to support myself. At this point, I just make excuses for myself. I'm not better than the man sitting in front of me. I've probably spilled more blood with my own hands than he had. But I guess out of sight out of mind. He only saw numbers and confirmations of kills. He didn't have to see the light leave people's eyes as they desperately tried to gasp for one last breath of air. But at this point it was routine. Or it should've been. It should be. I shook the thought out of my head.

"Fine I'll do it"

"That's my girl" my nose scrunched and I icked at the phrase

"I'm not your girl" I turned around and began my exit.

"He'll be at the blue lagoon on Friday night" I stopped in my tracks. That place had good security and the chances of me getting in the back rooms without a coin were low, only the main families had them. I heard him flick something in the air. I raised my hand to catch it. "You'll need this"

"Thanks" I looked down at the blue coin. Dread filled the pit of my stomach. This was probably one of the biggest jobs I've ever had.

"Rin." I stood at the exit. I turned my head to look back at him "Don't die" even if it seemed as if it was genuine concern. I knew he simply didn't want to lose a big asset.

"I won't"
