The city was in pure chaos it seemed. Laurance and Teony had been separated from the rest of their group, not getting any response from them.
"Somebody! Anybody! Come in!", Teony shouted into her earpiece.
"It's hopeless,", Laurance huffed, running along side her. "We need to get back to base to warn them. Shadow's army is-"
"Civilians I know! But how are we going to get back?", She asked, looking over to him, gripping her gun.
Laurance bit his lip and shook his head. He had no idea. With no jet or transportation available he didn't see an easy way to get out of the city.
As the two tried to come up with a plan, they took cover in a alleyway, catching their breath. Teony pulled up her wrist communicator, typing in coordinates of their location."Do you really think that will help?", Laurance huffed out, clutching his knees as his throat begged for air.
"It's worth a shot,", Teony insisted, shutting it down before grabbing her gun again. "Now, we just have to defend ourselves before someone can come get us."
Laurance nodded, still unsure of everything but, kept an eye out on the street. He hated all of this. It made him realize that this is what Shadow wanted all those years ago and it made him sick that he was a part of it once upon a time.
"They received our message and are stopping the next group so that they can get us and come up with a better game plan,", Teony explained.
"Sounds good,", Laurance responded, then thinking about his friends. He hoped that the team had figured out something to help them. He felt as if they were Scaleswind's only hope.
Teony then snapped at Laurance, grabbing his attention, shouting; "Listen to me Laurance. Everything is going to be okay as long as you and everyone else stays positive. The best we can do is drown out our negative thoughts."
"Says the girl who's petrified,", A deep voice chuckled behind them. They immediately turned, weapons drawn, and Laurance's eyes went wide seeing who it was. "It's so nice to finally have a reunion Laurance. It's been so long."
The brunette remained quiet, not letting Shadow get the satisfaction of a reaction from him. Teony spoke up instead, saying; "You won't get away with this you know."
Shadow laughed again, tossing his sword back and forth in his hands. He then slicked back his hair, saying; "All heroes say that you know. I swear, some of you have to get a little more original."
"Leave her be,", Laurance spat. "It's me you want, don't you?"
The man only rolled his eyes, sighing out; "Oh Laurance. You see...I made a mistake. You weren't worth my time. I really should've gone with someone a little bit more...broken. Like, Teony here. Think of it. A women this intelligent in high school...she must've been dying with anxiety about her grades. Now, she crumbling under the pressure of keeping her team and Scaleswind safe. Isn't that right Teony?"
The girl seemed bothered but, stood strongly against Shadow. She refused to be manipulated by his tactics. "You don't scare me."
"Of course I don't. But, your fears do,", Shadow smirked, flicking his hand, sending a arm of black smoke towards the girl, slamming her against the brick wall.
"Teony!", Laurance shouted, trying to aid her to only be pushed back by Shadow. He tumbled back to the ground, groaning at the rough fall.
"You're terrified that you're Scaleswind's only hope. You're family is here as well...you want to keep them safe, don't you? But, you know you're going to fail so, you only grow more panicked as you watch your team fall one by one,", Shadow hissed, coming closer to the woman, struggling to get out of his' magic grasp. "If you let me take control, I'll make this all go away for you."
