Chapter 34

A month later, Claire was in her room getting ready for the day. She had slowly been getting better. She didn't avoid her dad as much anymore.  But lately, she's been feeling weird. She would always wake up feeling hot, despite always having the fan on. Part of her had a bad feeling about it. She didn't want to tell her dad because she didn't want to worry him. Claire finished getting ready and made her way to the kitchen. She made herself some cereal and orange juice and walked into the lounge.

"Morning Claire." Bruce greeted.

"Hey guys." Claire said as she joined them on the couch.

"How are you this morning?" Steve asked.

"I'm good." Claire asked.

While everyone ate, they heard something. They looked outside to see Thor landing.

"Oh good." Tony said. "The thunder God is here." Thor walked into the tower. "Thor." Tony said. "To what do we owe this pleasure of your visit?"

"I came to see how your search for Loki's scepter was going?" Thor replied.

"We have a hit on a location." Maria said.

"Where?" Thor asked.

"Sokovia." Maria answered.

"Then, what are we waiting for?" Thor said. "Let's go."

"You heard the God." Tony said. "Let's get going." Everyone went to suit up. "How do you like your suit, Claire?" Tony asked. "Does it fit ok?"

"It's great." Claire said. "Thank you for it."

"Of course." Tony said.

Once everyone was ready, they boarded the jet and headed towards Sokovia.

"Claire, stay on the jet." Steve said.

"What!" Claire said. "No."

"Yes." Steve said.

"What was the point of me coming if you weren't going to let me do anything?" Claire asked. "I'm an Avenger too."

Steve was quiet for a moment. "Alright. Fine." He said. "But, you are not to go anywhere alone."

"Ok." Claire said.

"Let's go." Steve said.

They all got off of the jet. Everyone split up. Claire stayed with her father. They found a motorcycle and hopped on.

As Steve drove the motorcycle, Claire used her bow and arrow to shoot any soldiers in sight.

"Shit." They heard Tony through the coms.

"Language." Steve said. Claire giggled. "Jarvis, what's the view from upstairs?" Steve asked.

"The central building is protected by some kind of energy shield. Strucker's technology is well beyond any other Hydra base we've taken." Jarvis explained.

"Loki's scepter must be here." Thor said. "Strucker couldn't mount this defense without it."

"Wait a second." Tony said. "No one else is going to deal with the fact that Cap just said "language?""

"I know. It just slipped out." Steve said. "Claire, I need you to jump off the bike."

"Why?" Claire asked.

"Just do it." Steve said.

Claire jumped off the bike and rolled on the ground before stopping. She looked to see her dad throw the bike at a truck with soldiers on it.

"You good?" Steve asked.

"Yep." Claire said, dusting herself off. They ran through the woods.

All of a sudden, Steve was knocked down. Claire tried to shoot whoever it was, but didn't see anyone. "We have an enhanced in the field." Steve said.

"Clint's hit!" Natasha said.

"Stark, we're really need to get inside." Steve said.

"I'm closing in." Tony said.

"The enhanced?" Thor asked Steve.

"He's a blur." Steve answered. "All the new player's we've faced, I've never seen this."

"Clint's hit pretty bad, guys." Natasha said. We're gonna need evac."

"I can get Barton to the jet." Thor said. "The sooner we're gone the better. You and Stark secure the scepter."

"Copy that." Steve said.

"Find the scepter." Thor said before leaving.

"And for gosh sake, watch your language!" Tony said.

"That's not going away anytime soon." Steve said, sighing. Claire chuckled.

"We're locked down here." Natasha said.

"Then get to Banner." Steve said. "Time for a lullaby."

Claire and Steve headed towards the base and walked inside. They came across Strucker.

"Baron Strucker." Steve said. 'Hydra's number one thug."

"Technically, I'm a thug for SHIELD." Strucker said.

"Well then technically you're unemployed." Steve said. "Where's Loki's scepter?"

"Don't worry, I know when I'm beat." Strucker said. "You'll mention how I cooperated, I hope."

"I'll put it right under illegal human experimentation." Steve said. "How many are there?"

Claire noticed a girl about her age, creeping up on them. She aimed an arrow at her and let it go. The girl stopped the arrow in mid air. Claire's eyes widened in shock. The girl knocked Steve and Claire down.

"We have a second enhanced. Female." Steve said. "Do not engage."

"You'll have to be faster than..." Strucker started to say, but Steve knocked him out.

"Guys, I got Strucker." Steve said.

"I got something bigger." Tony said. "Thor, I got eyes on the prize."

Soon everyone was back on the aircraft. Claire put headphones in and listened to music while she worked on homework.

A little bit later, they arrived back at the Avengers headquarters. Claire listened as Maria explained to Steve about the enhanced people. They were twins named Wanda and Pietro Maximoff. Pietro had enhanced speed and Wanda had telekinesis and mental manipulation. So, that's how the girl stopped the arrow in mid air.

"I'm going to go get ready for the party." Claire said before heading to her room.
