My house loomed ahead of me, the only used house in the whole estate; the others were derelict. I grew more and more anxious about what I had seen earlier that morning, but I soon realised how selfish I had been.
My parents had only just lost one child, never mind another in the space of two weeks.
"Emily?" My Mum called hopefully as the door clicked behind me.
"Hello," I whispered as relief flooded through my Mum's face.
"Where on earth have you been young lady?" She scolded but couldn't hide how thankful she was.
"I'm sorry Mum, I just needed time," I almost sobbed. "Time to think."
Her look softened as she sighed and held me tight in a warm embrace. Her faded black hair flopped in front of her worn face, covering her tearfull eyes.
"Never do that ever again," she murmured into my hair, patting it softly.
"I won't. I promise."
