The seconds ticked by at a snails pace, dragging the day on. My mind produced every possibility as to what might be waiting at my empty home when I returned. If I returned.

What panicked me was that my parents had been away for several days due to work issues so the house would be abandoned.

Hoping for the end of this boredom to come sooner yet later at the same time, my eyes were fixated on the clock. I had to wait until 4:30. The minutes seemed to last for hours, my head counting them one by one.

"Time up," Mrs Mc'Kawl sighed, barging into the classroom. I exhaled in relief but soon tensed up again as of what possibly lurked at home.

"Are you alright?" The teacher tilted her head in concern, eyebrows raised.

"Yep, I'm fine," I assured her; I was a terrible liar.

"I'm sorry to hear about Josh. I know how you feel," she shook her head as tears brimmed her eyes.

"Really?"

"Yes. Last year, I lost my daughter the same way your brother disappeared. The police could not detect what happened to her young soul," she pressed her lips together and swallowed back a sob.

My eyes widened and a lump formed in my throat. That's what had happened to Abbey Mc'Kawl.

She had been in several of my classes, then all of a sudden I no longer saw her.

Her death was linked with Josh's.

And Millie's.

Finally, I was getting somewhere.
