My hands trembled uncontrollably as I attempted to slot my key into the lock of the front door. My heart thumped harder and harder and the shadows of the night sky reached out to touch the patches of my bare skin. I shivered more and more the longer it took for the key to fit in the lock.
But that wasn't happening.
The cold metal slipped through my fingers and landed on the stone steps with a tinkle like bells. My breathing pattern was messed up and my lifeless body was flooded with exhaustion. Cautiously and slowly, I crouched down into the shadows and my whole body was enveloped in an icy chill. I froze as something pulled at my ankle.
As my legs were pulled from underneath me, I fell flat onto my chest and the air shot out of me like a bullet. The same thing reached out as my arm was yanked from underneath me and something trickled from above my eyebrow and into my eye as my head whacked into the step.
My eyelids grew heavier and heavier, consciousness draining from my body. The mere light of my surroundings faded gradually.
Everything went black.
