Authors Note:

Some of you were asking about Jake. Bear with me; this story is more about Ali than it is about Jake. Ali is a Caucasian girl raised in a cocoon. She had never experience racism until recently. Even when Jake pointed out to her the issue of the day, she never saw it. She told him things are better, they are getting better and in a hundred years , it will  be history

So Jake is whisked away a hundred years into the future, where he found out that although things are better, they are still not great. But for Ali she is left in the 20th century to experience racism first hand.....from the people she love the most. Not only is she experiencing it , she is living it,  as she  is about  to become the mother of  a child who would be identified by many labels except  Caucasian....And she realizes that she has more in common with her " Mother in law" than she does with her own mother.

Ali knocked on the door of the small cottage where Jake's mother lived; she kept knocking until  Cynthia opened the door.   Ali couldn't believe this was the same  woman she met a short time ago. She looked so disheveled. Her hair was such a mess as if she had not bothered to brush it in weeks. Her face lit up when she saw Ali, thinking that she brought good news about Jake.

"Did you hear from Jake?" she asked and when Ali said no the light just went out from her face.

"But I have news," Ali said.

Cynthia turned to face Ali. "What kind of news? If its bad news you can just leave with your news; I don't want to hear anymore bad news," she said.

Ali smiled at her. "Actually it is good news," Ali said.

"Then speak child; I don't have all day to stand here looking at you," Cynthia said.

"I am pregnant...Jakes baby," Ali said with tears in her eyes.

Cynthia gasped. "Jake's baby?" she whispered.

Ali nodded. The two woman could not get to each other quick enough as they hugged and cried.

"Come lets go into the kitchen," Cynthia said coming to life. Ali could not believe the transformation as she watched Cynthia came to life again. She wished that she got the same reaction from her parents but she knew that would not happen......not in a hundred years, no pun intended.

"Please sit down Ali; so how are you feeling; do you know what you are having yet?" she asked.

"No......it's too soon but when its time to find out I want you to come with me," Ali said. How could she tell Cynthia that Jake already told her that it was a boy?

"Of course, anything," she said. she made tea and then fix them lunch.

"Oh I almost forget, I hired an investigator to go down to South America to find out what happen to Jake after he landed," Ali said.

"You think he is.....dead?" Cynthia asked.

No Cynthia, I don't; but he could be sick and in a hospital; we need to find out," Ali quickly added. She hated that she could not be forthright with Cynthia but how could she tell her that her son was 100 years  in the future?

"Yes that is a good idea; I never thought that he could be injured or hurt and cant tell anyone anything; I just assume that he was dead," Cynthia said.

"Do you need money? I am sure hiring an investigator is not cheap," Cynthia said.

"No, I have some money that my grandfather left me; I am good Cynthia," Ali told her.
