The day ended up terrible.

My math teacher surprised the class with a pop quiz and I lost the one umbrella I brought with me. I checked the forecast and my heart sank after reading the possibility of a thunderstorm. Of all days, why today?

"I guess I can just call my ride to come get me now...", I muttered. I pulled my phone out and all that showed was a black screen. No battery? "You have got to be kidding me." I kept my cool and rummaged through my locker to find a spare charger.

The skies rumbled and I already felt uneasy. Gotta hurry... I eventually gave up on the charger and decided to use my gym clothes as a makeshift raincoat. I protected my clothes and hair from the pouring rain and tried finding the nearest bus stop.

"Today just isn't my day..." The thunder grew louder and the shaking in my hands kicked in. I closed my eyes and the sound of my beating heart drowned out the noise for little while. Sing mom's song and everything will be okay...

I flinched as loud bangs attacked my ears. "The wind grows faster...", I sang. "And all the trees sway... but you are nearer... your warmth shall stay...." My eyes welled as another loud bang scared me. The thunder continued to rumble and I didn't know what else to do. I didn't see any bus coming and the weather grew more violent by the second.

"Byul? Byul is that you?"

I searched for the woman who called out to me. A short woman came closer and I soon realized it was Mrs. Kim. "Byul it is you!" My savior turned out to be Taehyung's mom and I couldn't be more thankful. "My goodness... what are you doing out in this weather?" I thought the same for her. Grocery shopping during a violent thunderstorm was a feat in itself.

"My phone died so I couldn't call my ride...", I said. Mrs. Kim took her scarf and wrapped it around my neck. "Poor girl.", she said. The winds howled and I flinched as the skies roared. "Well we can't stay out here for much longer. You're trembling."

She held my hand and directed me in the opposite direction. "Where are we going?", I asked. Mrs. Kim linked her arm with mine. "Waiting for the bus is too dangerous.", she said. "I'll treat you to some soup and tea at our house." Your house?
_______

"I'm home!"

"Jinah, you were out in that weather?"

"Oh, it wasn't that bad when I left."

Mrs. Kim hung her raincoat on the nearby rack. An older man with glasses sat on the couch and we met eyes. "Who's this?", he asked. I immediately bowed and introduced myself. "This is Taehyung's friend. The sweet girl who helped us with the restaurant." The man I assumed to be Taehyung's dad greeted me with a warm smile. "Welcome to our home.", he said.

"Byul you're soaking wet.", chimed Mrs. Kim. "I don't want you to catch a cold so go on and take a shower." Is that really okay? Mrs. Kim sensed my hesitation and directed me to the bathroom. "There's no room to be uncomfortable in this small house.", she said. "There's new bars of soap in the cabinet and take these clothes here. They'll fit you just fine."

She handed me clean clothes and left me to do my thing.

______

"I'm home."

Taehyung closed the front door but stopped after noticing the extra pair of shoes. "Is one of mom's friends here?", he asked. Taehyung sniffed the air. "What's the occasion?" Taehyung's dad chuckled and turned the TV off.

"There's no occasion.", he replied. "Your mom just wanted to treat your friend with her famous soup."

"My friend?"
