"Are you ready?"
I nodded and took my mom's hand. She led me to the car and the driver set off to the company banquet. I peered out the car window admiring the little rain droplets.
"It had to rain today of all days?" My mom frowned as the rain increased and the winds grew more violent."Don't worry ma'am. We'll get to the banquet in no time.", said the driver. My mom ran her fingers through my hair. "I'm sorry for bringing you, Byul... I just didn't want you to feel all alone in that big house."
I smiled. "You don't have to worry.", I said. "I'll go anywhere as long as you're there!" My mom kissed my nose and started singing my favorite lullaby. "The wind grows faster and all the trees sway.", she sang. I closed my eyes and hummed along.
"But you are nearer, your warmth shall-"

"Stay!"
I sat up and the bed creaked.
"Is everything okay?" I looked down and saw Taehyung lying on the floor. He placed the book he was reading down and sat up. So I did end up sleeping here... "I'm okay.", I said. "...Um...Sorry for taking your bed..."
Taehyung smiled and shook his head. "Don't be.", he said. "You went through a lot yesterday. The least I could do was make you comfortable."
"But I owe you big time."
"Don't even think about writing another check."
I chuckled. "...So, how are you feeling?", he asked. Flashes of last night's episode appeared in my mind and I cringed. "Oh God...", I muttered. "Look, I don't know why I thought following your mom was a good idea..." Yesterday was so embarrassing. "...I'm sorry you had to see that. No one's really seen me freak out before."
Taehyung raised an eyebrow. "Not even your family?", he asked. I shook my head. Whenever storms happened, I'd just go to my room. I never wanted to feel more of a nuisance than I already was to my family.
"You're the first I guess."
"Are you just not a fan of loud noises?"
I hesitated to answer. Do I really want to tell him? Explaining my fear always brought up painful memories. "Well that's not really important anyway.", he said. "At least now you don't have to be alone when you're scared."
Before I could respond, Taehyung's bedroom door opened. "Byul, your ride is here.", said Mrs. Kim. She stepped in with Sian behind her and my jaw dropped. What is HE doing here? I glanced at Sian and he frowned. "Well, I'll go and get your clothes from the dryer."
Mrs. Kim left and Sian stood awkwardly by the door. "How did you get here?", I asked. "And why are you here?" Sian silently pointed at his watch and suddenly everything clicked. OH NO. I jumped out of bed and frantically ran around Taehyung's room trying to find my phone. "Byul.", called Taehyung. "Byul!" He grabbed me by shoulders and I stopped searching. "What are you looking for?", he asked.
"M-My phone." Taehyung calmly walked to his nightstand and unplugged my phone from the charger. "Relax, okay?" he said. Taehyung handed the phone to me and I exhaled. "I'm sorry. I just completely forgot about an important event."
"I'm not surprised." chimed Sian. "You care very little about responsibility." I shot Sian a dirty look and he smirked. He picked up a Burberry shopping bag from behind him and handed it to me. "Change here so we don't continue to waste time.", he said.
I snatched the bag from him and quickly went to the bathroom to change.

Taehyung and Sian were left in awkward silence. "I appreciate you looking after Byul.", said Sian.
"She's my friend. Of course I'm gonna look out for her."
"Well, you've done enough. I can take care of her from now on."
"Who exactly are you?"
"You'll find out soon."
______"Mrs. Kim, I can't thank you enough.", I said hugging her. She patted my head before handing me my clothes. "Just like our restaurant, you're welcome here anytime. And you too, Mr..."
"Lee.", replied Sian. "Lee Sian."
"Oh that right!", she exclaimed. "Another chaebol! It's amazing to know such powerful people." I shook my head. "You'd be surprised how little power we actually have..." Sian glared at me but I didn't care. It was useless praising such a corrupt system.
"Contrary to what Byul thinks, our companies excel at many things.", he snapped. "It's just hard for stupid people to understand I guess." I rolled my eyes. "I'm sure every company goes through its ups and downs.", chimed Mrs. Kim. "I believe that you two are capable of running it successfully."
Mrs. Kim's words were indeed uplifting. Even Sian's mood seemed to grow brighter. "If you have somewhere to be, we don't want to keep you.", said Taehyung. Oh right, the event. I met eyes with Taehyung and smiled. "Thanks.", I said. He looked away and nodded. "...Sure.", he said shyly.
______
"Can you believe Kang Byul and Lee Sian were in my home?"
Mrs. Kim sat down at the kitchen table and sighed. "But you missed your chance, Taehyung.", she said. "You let that chaebol take my future daughter-in-law away." Taehyung choked on his water and coughed. "What?", he asked. "No. No. I'm not missing any chance, mom."
"I-I have someone I already like...", he continued. Mrs. Kim huffed. "Another mystery girl..." Taehyung rubbed his neck. "She's really cool mom.", Taehyung replied. "I promise you'll like her."
