well, it turned out that Jack used to live in Texas and worked in the kitchen at What-A-Burger. long story short, Jack invited me to his house where he cooked us authentic What-A-Burger burgers. he's a great cook.
i stayed at his place for a while. we talked and joked and i even cried a little about the Shayne ordeal, and he gave me a tub of ice cream to make me feel better. i took it home with me.
i was kind of crushing on Jack.
he was ginger, he had tons of freckles, he was tall–like, 6'0"–and he was really sweet and funny.
but, ever since middle school, i had always been petrified of making the first move. let's just say it never ended well for me.
so i decided to wait and see if this was a friend thing or not.
june 1st.
my second day.
today, i was going to start being in some videos and skits. needless to say, i was very excited.
there was only one thing that could put a damper on my day.
Shayne Topp.
it's funny how one interaction with a person can change your whole perception of their character.
i know i told Olivia that i understood where Shayne was coming from, and i did, but i still don't see how that justifies ignoring your new intern. couldn't he at least make an attempt? it was honestly frustrating.
but there were lots of other people that liked me there, so i decided to try staying positive.
that didn't last very long.
i walked through the door with Jack, and who did i see standing there awaiting my arrival?
Ian, Anthony, Lisa, and Shayne.
"Jack, you can go along to the writers' room. we need to have a quick discussion with these two." Ian did not sound pleased.
am i about to get fired from my internship?
i gave Jack a nervous look, but he just smiled back, patted my shoulder, and gave me a wink before he walked off. it made me feel a little better.
"come on, you two. we need to chat."
we followed Ian, Anthony, and Lisa to her office in the most uncomfortable, deafening silence i had ever experienced.
"please, (y/n), sit down. you too, Shayne."
i sat down with a gentle sigh of nerves while Shayne threw himself into the chair with a loud huff.
what a drama queen.
"i know, right?" Anthony said with a faint laugh lacing his voice.
okay, i actually need to fix that.
"so, Shayne, a few of your fellow coworkers have informed me of your distaste for our interns, is that correct?" Lisa questioned.
"no, not really. just them," he pointed at me lazily.
"am i really that scary? i promise, i don't bite," i laughed, trying to lighten the mood.
"see! they're not even funny."
that hurts a bit.
"i thought it was funny, Shayne. you're just being a douche," Ian said in my defense.
"whatever," Shayne sighed. "i just don't see why we had to go and ruin the squad by adding in some new person."
"how do you think everyone felt when you joined, Shayne? you weren't exactly one of the founders of Smosh." wait, that wasn't Ian, Anthony, or Lisa's voice.
