i had almost fallen asleep when my phone buzzed and lit up.

Smosh tweeted:
HEY! we are starting a new program at Smosh called "Smosh Interns!" click the link in our bio to check out the details!

interesting.

i was swallowed by my curiosity, so i escaped the comforting warmth of my bed to grab my laptop from the desk.

i ended up just sitting on the floor because it was hard to get back on the top bunk without waking up my dorm mate.

as i sleepily opened my sticker-covered laptop, i was blinded by the ferocious white light of the google tab i had forgotten to close before i went to bed.

i quickly typed in the web address into my browser and realized that i could have just gotten on my phone without having to go through such an ordeal, but it was too late.

once the page loaded, the screen read in big letters, "SMOSH INTERNS," and under that, there were two buttons: one labeled "information & details" and the other labeled "sign up now!"

i clicked on the first button, which took me to a new page that had a couple paragraphs on it. i'll paraphrase for you:

We are introducing a new program at Smosh called Smosh Interns! We are taking in young high school and college students and giving them a chance to show us what they've got! Whether you aspire to be a thespian, an editor, a director, a tech assistant, or any other profession found inside our offices, we can make your dreams come true! You will endure a six-month internship where you will advance from rookie to master, with experts by your side to help you along the way! If you are a college student, you are extra lucky because, at the end of your six months, you will have an opportunity to accept a job offer from us! We are only selecting ONE student per category, so be sure to offer up your best self in that application! The categories are listed below, and we hope to see you soon!

i looked at the date in the corner of the screen.

march 17th, 2021

i've got time.

my excitement over this new opportunity completely relieved all feeling of sleep in my body, so i decided to go ahead and start filling out the application.

a video application? ugh. i hated the way i looked and sounded on video. but, if i was going to join smosh as an acting intern, i'd have to get used to it.

since it was a video application, i decided to wait to film until i was alone and not at risk of waking anyone.

the next day

it was thursday, so i only had one class: developing your character workshop. after that was done, i went into one of the empty sound-proof study rooms at the library to record my smosh intern application.

i tried to be myself, but i also tried to have a false sense of confidence that might give me an edge. there was a list of questions that were beneficial to answer, so i answered all of them because i'm over-the-top like that.

i sat on the floor of the room for at least an hour, watching my video and critiquing myself as i contemplated re-recording it for, like, the fifth time.

"if i keep doing this, it's never going to get done. i should just accept what i've got and move on."

i sighed as i uploaded the file to the website.
