may 31st.

that's when it all began.

i had waited a full month. i even finished my second year of college in that time.

Syd was more than willing to help me move to my new apartment in LA, where i would be living for the next two years of my life, and maybe longer depending on how this internship went.

i woke up to the song "Champion" by Fall Out Boy at 6am (#not sponsored but definitely should be). it was time to get ready for my first day.

i shot up out of my bed and brought my phone with me into my kitchen so i could listen to the rest of the song as i cooked some pancakes for breakfast.

if i can live through this, i can do anything.

those words were my saving grace that day.

i scarfed down my food and ran to get dressed.

i pulled out some black jeans and a simple button-up. business casual. perfect.

i was about to brush my teeth, when i got a notification on my phone. it was a reminder to take my medications.

i set down my toothbrush and walked back to the kitchen, where a weekly set of day and night pills were sitting. i opened the morning one and counted them, just to be sure.

adderall for the ADHD, check. prozac for the anxiety and depression, check. a tick-suppressant to counteract the negative effects of the adderall, check. and finally, some standard asthma medication, check.

i popped them all in my mouth and washed them down with some apple juice (the superior juice).

i went to go brush my teeth again, but i checked my phone and realized it was only 8am. i didn't have to be in the office until 10am.

i brushed my teeth anyway because i wasn't going to eat or drink anything else besides water that morning.

i grabbed my Vans Sk8-Hi's and set them by the door along with my backpack and keys.

i tried to chill out for the next hour-and-a-half, but the only thing i could do was rehearse my introductions to everyone. i was so nervous. these were the people that i had looked up to for years prior, and i didn't want to mess it up.

well, 9:30 rolled around, so i put on my shoes, grabbed my backpack and my keys, and headed out the front door.

i gave myself 30 minutes to account for traffic and getting lost because i wasn't entirely sure where i was going.

i got in the car, put the keys in the ignition, turned them, and got the air conditioning flowing. i sat for a moment on my phone, trying to find the email that Matt Raub had sent me with the address. when i finally found it and put it into google maps, i checked the time and noticed that i had already lost five whole minutes. i needed to get going.

it turned out that the office was much closer than i expected. it was actually almost within walking distance.

almost.
