Before you read: This might be super cheesy or super sweet? I find it cheesy but it could be because this is my own writing lol.
School was in full swing just three weeks after starting, you were busy studying for the SATs, keeping up with your classes, and horse-back riding, you felt super overwhelmed. Not to mention you were still getting adjusted to not having your sisters there, they were usually your tutor's and guides, since they had nearly all the same teachers and taken the same classes as you. You missed their company too. They had facetimed you once or twice since they had left, but only out of pure curiosity for Chris. Speaking of Chris, the class was the only place you felt relaxed, you still had work to do, obviously, but the class was just the perfect break from your busy schedule that you so desperately needed. You were in that very classroom right now, putting in extra time for your project with your partners. It was lunch, so the meeting in his classroom was casual. He had opened the classroom that week for people to do the same thing you were in there doing, he stayed in the classroom for lunch normally, open for questions that students may ask, or company you suppose, although you hadn't seen anyone take up the opportunity.
That kinda makes me sad
There was a pause of silence in your group, which, since you partnered with your friends, was rare, but you were all chugging along independently, trying to get the project done as soon as possible.
"Does anyone else have to go to the bathroom?" Caroline asked.
"I'm so glad you asked, yes, yes I do." Daphne replied
"I suppose I should, I really don't want to use my bathroom passes for my fifth period" Hannah also replied
"y/n?" Their heads turned to you
"No, I went during my fourth" You said
They left the classroom, making the only inhabitants you and Chris
I hate that he prefers us to call him Chris
You thought to yourself about the dreaded name, cursing his university students who normalized it
You didn't acknowledge Chris, you simply continued to work. You could feel his eyes lift from his laptops and onto you though, which only made it harder.
Please don't talk to me, please, for the love of God
He got up from his seat
Is he still looking at me?
You glanced, using your peripheral vision
Shit. He is. Please Chris, just don't.
He made it to your table, your friends still gone to the bathroom, you were the only one there which meant this wasn't about the group project, this was about you.
It can't be about my grade can it? No, it can't be, you have a 98%, we just checked this morning
You answered your own question.
"y/n, would you mind if we talked for a bit?"
Yes, yes I would, please shut up and let me work
You smiled, "Yeah, no problem"
"Good, I'm glad, look, you're doing great in my class, but I've noticed you've seemed a little off in my class the past few days and I just want to make sure you're doing ok" He grinned, and it made you weak in your seat, if you were standing, you probably would've passed out.
"Yeah, I'm fine, I'm just a little busy, you know? Classic junior year stuff" You tried to hold back tears as your mind went through all the things that you were busy about, had this been a different teacher, you wouldn't be in the same situation. But you were so. damn. comfortable. with him.
"Oh, yeah, I get it, are you sure you're ok? You can tell me anything ok? Just know I'm here for you."
I don't think I can tell you I've dreamed about you railing me, or us getting married and having kids together, but ok, I believe you
You mentally rolled your eyes at the thought. You shoved you laugh deep down inside you, thinking about how ridiculous it would be if you actually told him that. But, in focusing on the holding down the laugh, your tears were released.
Shit
You hated it when people saw you cry, how they all were drawn to you as if you had just taken gum out of your backpack. The more and more they asked you if you were ok, the more attention you got, the more you couldn't control your meltdown.
Chris took a deep, concerned breath in, "y/n, it's ok, shhhh. If you want an extension on this project you let me know ok? Do your parents know how you're feeling right now? It's gonna be ok, ok?"
You looked up at him, crying more at the sight of his deeply concerned look, the kind your own dad would give you.
Why does he care about me so much?
"I'll leave you alone for now, but you just, keep me updated on things alright? And, if you need help with the SATs, just tell me, believe it or not, I didn't do too bad on them." He let out a nervous laugh as you looked for your tissues and started packing up before your friends could come back and see you like this.
"Could you let my friends know that I had to go when they come back?" You sniffled
"Of course, no problem"
