Today was Christmas Eve and you only had so much time before Daryl returned with Rick from going out for supplies. Meaning you had to wrap and hide his gifts before he got back. You already knew he wouldn't be a fan of one of them but that was a later problem right now you had to focus on the cookies baking in the oven and cutting the paper bags you had into suitable wrapping paper.
As the oven beeped, you quickly sat down your scissors and moved over to it to pull out the cookie sheet covered into dyed green and red treats. As the cooled you hummed to yourself, gently wrapping his gifts, being gently to not tear the paper.
You had just finished as he walked through the door and you quickly hid them behind the tree you made Daryl go out and get you. It was decorated in stringed popcorn and ornaments that Judith and a few of the other kids had made.
"Hey." Daryl said gruffly to you with a tiny smile on his face as he leaned against the wall to untie his boots.
"Hey lover." You smiled brightly as you moved to stand in front of him, you had always been far more affectionate but that was alright with you. Daryl was always more affectionate in bed anyways and you had no complaints.
He softly kissed the top of your head as you wrapped your arms around his waist, "Find anything good while you were out?"
"You could say that." He chuckled while smirking, "What's that smell?" He asked moving past you and into the kitchen.
"Don't even think about it mister." You stopped him as he reached for one of your cookies, "Those are for the party tonight, which speaking of you may want to go shower and clean up before our guests arrive."
He nodded his head and slowly pulled his hand away before moving to you and grabbing your wrist gently, "Lets go shower then sweetheart."
After your small get together, you and Daryl sat on the couch, a fire roaring a few feet ahead of you as you rested your head on his firm shoulder, "I got ya somethin' while we were out." He said softly while playing with something small in his hands.
"Oh yeah?" You sat up with a curious look on your face, "Whatcha get me?" He held out his large hand in a fist from which he dropped down a small butterfly pendent attached to a necklace, "Oh Daryl. It's beautiful!" You exclaimed excitedly before turning your back to him and lifting your hair.
The necklace rested perfectly against you and the color looked great on you. "Thank you so much Daryl. I love it." You smiled gently, squeezing his hand as he returned a small grin of his own.
"Oh! I almost forgot!" You jumped up as you went to grab his two gifts, "I got you something too."
He frowned and shook his head, "(Y/n), I told you not to worry about it." You only smiled softly at his words, setting the gifts down in front of him, "Please tell me you didn't leave the walls to get this crap?"
"Hey! It's not crap!" You yelled, smacking his shoulder, "But no. I didn't leave to get it, Rick looked for it for me." You smiled proudly as he scoffed and shook his head, running his fingers gently over the brown wrapping paper.
"Are ya gonna open it or just look at it?" You teased, crossing your legs as you sat across from him. He rolled his eyes but you could see the small smile that stretched across his face in the dim light of the fire. "This one first!" You exclaimed, handing him the larger of the two packages. The one you knew he'd hate.
As he unwrapped it, his face screwed up tightly, "What's this?" He asked, holding up the blue button up shirt that Rick had found in a house right outside of Alexandria.
"It's a shirt silly." You giggled, "You're gonna need it for your next gift. Need ya to look decent." You winked at him.
"I always look decent." He sassed back to which you gave a pointed look, "Ok. I always look alive." He shrugged to which you nodded your head in agreeance.
"Most of the time." You laughed as he shoved your shoulder gently before giving you a 'thanks' and setting the shirt to the side, "Alright, time for this one." You smiled excitedly as a blush rose across your cheeks.
It was an oddly wrapped square item and he picked it up with a raised brow before unwrapping it slowly. He tore open the edge and tilted to whole packaged to the side, along what was in it to slide out onto his hand.
You bit your lip in anticipation and studied his face closely as he stared at the golden ring that laid in his hand, "What the-"
"Daryl, we've know eachother since the beginning of the end." You said softly, tugging on his free hand to get him to look at you.
"Are you.." He nodded towards the ring once with wide eyes and you took a deep breath before nodding your head aswell.
"Yeah I am..." Daryl looked frozen in place as he stared deeply at the ring and swallowed hard, your hands began to sweat with fear as your lower lip trembled, "What do ya say baby? Marry me?"
