Sam groaned, waking up slowly and rolling onto his other side, intending to wrap his arm around the waist of the pretty girl he took back to his dorm last night. Only to find the other side of the bed empty and cold.
He peaked an eye open and sure enough, she was gone. He frowned, hoping to catch her before she left and ask her on a proper date. He met her at a small bar the previous night while out with some friends. She was sitting with a group of friends, they were all talking loudly and giggling obnoxiously, except for her.
She was leaning over some kind of book, the tip of a pencil tapping against her chin while she read over the book. She was cute, her brows scrunched together as she studied the material.
Sam's friends noticed his staring and encouraged to go ask her if he could buy her a drink. She politely declined, explaining she didn't drink much. Sam smiled kindly and turned to walk away, but a soft hand on his arm stopped him, "But you could buy me a soda?" and the rest was history.
Sam actually quite liked the girl, the little he did know. She liked poetry, a lot. But from what Sam could gather, she wasn't attending his school.
Sighing sadly, Sam rolled out of bed and pulled on a clean shirt sluggishly, still exhausted from last night. He dragged his feet as he walked from the dorms to where his first class of the day would be held, a kefir held in his hand and a bag hung over his arm.
That's when he heard the familiar cheeriness of her voice, "Yes, I understand professor. But-"
"No buts Ms. (Y/L/N)." Sam turned towards the conversation, hoping it wasn't just wishful thinking, but it wasn't. She was really right there in front of him, "No extra credit. The exam was on the love shared between Romeo and Juliet. Not the "Morbid infatuation" they held for each other. Your grade is final." The tall and grumpy man turned away and continued on his trek and she sighed tiredly, dropping her head down.
Sam quickly made his way towards her, but she turned in his direction right as he stopped next to her, causing her to bump into him and causing him to spill what was left of his drink onto her scarf.
"Shit! I'm sorry!" Sam exclaimed, pulling a napkin from his pocket and trying to wipe the kefir off of her scarf.
"It's alright.." She groaned, grabbing the napkin from his hand and wiping the drink away herself before pulling the garment off and tucking it in her bag, "Thank you for the..." Her voice trailed off as she looked up at a nervously smiling Sam.
"It's no problem. Again, I'm really sorry...?" He silently asked for her name, a slight shake in his fingers as he eagerly awaited her response.
"Look Sam, you're sweet and all but it was a one-nighter." She explained before with an awkward smile, "Just forget about me ok?" She advised, before turning and tiredly walking away.
Sam stood there and watched Her walk away, why had She just been so cold? Did he say something wrong? He shook his head and turned away, starting back towards the campus building he was supposed to be in three minutes ago.
Sam hadn't seen Her since then, and maybe that was best. It was getting harder and harder for him to pretend like he didn't want to see Her just as much as She didn't want to see him.
The next time he saw Her, She was once again with the same professor as last time, except this time their conversation seemed to be far more heated and when he walked off, Sam could swear he saw Her cry before quickly wiping Her cheeks off and walking in the opposite direction.
Sam sat in the upper part of the library that sat in the middle of the campus, book in hand as he sat on a small balcony reading, he looked down over the edge of the balcony and there She sat in the grass with Her friends.
They seemed to be going over some assignment together on the perfectly sunny day. Seems that Sam and the girl had similar thoughts and decided to both work outside today. The only difference being that She was with friends and Sam was alone.
Sam sat down his book and leaned against the stone railing around the balcony, he watched Her interacting with her friends. She was wearing a pair of jean shorts, a light colored tank top, and a pair of sneakers She looked beautiful to Sam, the sight of her alone, allowing him to drift off where he sat.
Sam walked down the hall towards room 07B, as a teachers assistant, he had to run a lot of papers back and forth for the teacher he worked for. It just so happened that he had to run some papers over to the same room that Her professor worked in.
Sam reached forward to the doorknob, the teacher he was running the papers for, explained that Her professor wasn't in class right now, so Sam wouldn't be interrupting anything and against any better judgment Sam decided he would give this guy a piece of his mind for making Her cry.
Sam pushed the door open just in time to see the professor giving Her a piece of Him, and suddenly, it was a lot easier for Sam to pretend he never wanted to see Her again.
