Ebun

It wasn't him.

When she turned to take a proper look at who had been following closely behind her, she saw that it was a stranger. And it wasn't just one stranger.

The bushes rustled some more and footsteps trampled on the fallen leaves. She had heard those sounds when she walked down the street to her house but she never estimated that five other strangers were trailing her.

The six strangers were all men.

At least they seemed like men because they were a lot taller than she was and their body build was a little too much for an average teenage boy. When her elder brother, Alexander was nineteen, he was simply lanky. Same with other teenage boys she had observed.

Suddenly, she felt weak and wished she would swallow her words. Why had she asked the stalker to come out like that? Why did she sound so arrogant in the face of danger? She started to wish she was a lot more careful and hadn't behaved like she was ready for whatever was going to come her way.

The first guy she saw made her regret her actions and conducts immediately because when she looked at him properly, she couldn't see his face. A white mask covered it all with only a little, open spaces that gave a little view of his eyes. She couldn't even see them properly to ascertain what color they were.

His clothes were black and it left very little of his skin out in the open. It wasn't like she could even identify who he was. She was only able to tell that he wasn't the guy from the corridor because he wasn't of average height.

The five other guys that had been also been following her moved closer to where she stood. They weren't wearing any masks like the first guy but they were wearing black clothes too which made it somewhat hard for her to properly mark out their faces at that moment.

Even with the sun scorching down their figures, it only made them look like monstrous shadows of the noonday and that was the only thing Ebun could think of. The fact that she'd found herself in a state where she'd spent years aiming never to find herself in – defenseless.

None of them held any weapons. At least not any that she could easily see but the fact that it was the six of them against her did one thing that was uncommon to Ebun's personality. It scared her. She clutched the fabric of her uniform closely, her eyes darting from one head to the other, nudging her brain to think of an effective way to escape this situation at all but was there any?

The corridor guy had won if this was his plan for her and she hated it so much. She was already programmed to lose in this terrible situation.

Deep within her, she knew that fighting or trying to escape the situation would be vain but she still wanted to try something. Anything. Instinctively out of fear, she planted her back against the metal gate which was right behind her. The force in which she used to rest against the gate had caused it to open widely which meant that the gate was initially not locked.

As soon as the gate opened, she ran with all of her might. It was a smaller-sized gate compared to the main gate that could accommodate an entry of cars so maybe she was at a little advantage.

Before she could close the gate, however, one of the six guys had stormed in with a force and he was closing to grabbing her arm but there was no way he could with the energy she used. One of the perks of being a kid – having the incredible stamina to run speedily.

Her mind was still reeling, as her eyes searched for a place where she could hide and would not be found easily but the outer surroundings didn't provide any suitable answer to her inner quest.
