Chapter 4 - An Unexpected Guest

You have been dancing with Nat and Wanda for what feels like hours and your feet are starting to hurt in the new shoes you bought.

"I think I'm going to sit down for a bit" you say as you walk towards the sofa. Nat and Wanda continue to dance on for a bit while you sit and take it all in.

The music dies down while everyone sings happy birthday to Peter. You can hear what sounds like people shouting out the front so you decide to check it out. When you get there you see Happy arguing with a man. You stand back so they can't see you and listen in. The mans voice sounds familiar. You know you have heard it before but you just can't pin point who it is. You decide to walk a bit closer, to get a better look but the sounds of your high heels tapping on the floor draws their attention to you.

"Y/n?!" Says the man.

He steps into the light and you can feel your face drops.

"Alex?!" You run over and jump into his arms. He spins your round and holds you tight.

"Omg! I haven't seen you in ages, wh-wha-what are you doing here?!" You stutter with excitement.

"Well I heard you where back in town and came to see you, but this goof ball wouldn't let me in!" Alex points to Happy.

"It's okay Happy, he's with me."  Before Happy can reply you take his hand and drag him into the party and go to the bar to get him a drink.

"So where have you been?" Asks Alex.

"What do you mean?" You reply.

Alex looks at you and says "well you just disappeared off the face of the earth for, what was it like 6 years...after josh. Never reach out to anyone. And then I have to find out through social media that you're back? What's that all about?" As you are about to answer you can see Steve, Nat, Clint and Wanda all staring over at you.

"Who's that with y/n?" Asks Clint.

Just then Tony comes up to them. "That's Alex. He was Josh's best friend."

"Josh?" Asks Clint cluelessly.

"Look y/n really hates people taking about all of this, but Josh was y/n's fiancé." Tony starts to explain.

"Fiancé?" Asks Steve really surprised.

"Jealous are we Steve?" Laughs Nat.

Steve rolls his eyes and turns back to Tony.

"Yes now listen up. So they where engaged and then we where on a mission, things weren't too good, we where completely outnumbered. Then out of no where, y/n was shot in the stomach. Josh ran to help her but didn't see the guy with the sniper on top of the building. He was shot dead, then y/n disappeared for six years and now she's back."

Everyone looks shocked. "That's deep" says Bucky

You can see everyone staring at you so you decide to mess with them for a bit. "I'll explain it later. For now, let's dance yeah?" He takes your hand, leads you onto the dance floor and you begin to dance with him. He pulls you in close, you can feel his heart beating in his chest.

"That still doesn't explain what he's doing dancing with y/n" Steve says as he takes a drink.

"Could you be anymore jealous?" Asks Wanda.

Steve chocks on his drink and while coughing he say "I'm not jellous, I'm just pointing out that they seem to be comfortable with each other."

Nat looks at him and raises her eyebrow while taking a drink.

"I'm not the biggest fan of him either Steve, he's always been a little too flirty with my sister, even when she was with Josh he always did this."

"Guys, y/n is a big girl, she doesn't need you both being like this, she can handle herself." Says Nat.

"I agree with her, you saw what happened with flash earlier, she'll be fine" adds Bucky.

An hour passes by and your still dancing with him.

"I'm just going to get a drink" shouts Alex over the music. "What do you want?" He adds.

"I'll have the usual, thanks." You dance on while waiting for Alex to come back. While Alex is at the bar he slips something into your drink but you don't know.

"Here you go" he hands you your drink and you both down them.

"How about we go for a walk?" You both head out of the party but you begin to get dizzy.

"I think, I think I'm just going to lie down for a bit" you say as you trip going up the stairs.

"I got you" says Alex and he catches you and lifts you up.

As you are making your way to your room see Tony. "What are you doing up here?" He asks.

Alex stands you up and you say while stumbling past Tony "Nothing Tony, just I need to lie down, and for everything to stop spinning." You trip again and Tony catches you.

"I thought you could handle your drink y/n" he says in his big brother, over protective, annoying voice.

"I can, it's just, I don't know what's wrong with me." You say as you take a deep breath.

"It's alright Tony I have her" Alex says while holding you up.

"Just go get some sleep okay?" He says and walks on.

As you get into your room you quickly get to your bed and sit on the edge. "If everything would stop spinning, it would, it would be alright."

Alex locks the door behind him and sits beside you. 'It's going to be okay y/n, I promise" he looks into your eyes and goes in for a kiss, you quickly pull away.

"Alex, this, t-this will never happen, I loved um...josh and you where his um his, best friend, and we are both drunk." You say.

"Shhh" Alex says as he pushes you down on bed and throws him self on top of you.

"Get off me!" You shout.

As Tony gets back down to the party Steve and Bucky run over to him and are out of breath. "Have you seen y/n?!" Steve pants.

"Yeah, she's away to bed, can't handle her drink if you ask me" he laughs.

"Where's Alex?" Asks Bucky "I swear I'm going to kill him."

"What's happened?" Tony asks as he can tell something is wrong.

Bucky explains to Tony that he saw Alex putting something in y/n's drink and tried to stop him but couldn't get to you in time.

"Oh shit!" Tony quickly runs up to your room with Steve and Bucky following him.
