Chapter 2 - Catch Up

You have just finished your dinner and walk to the kitchen with your plate and scrape what you didn't eat into the bin.

Steve comes in behind you "hey y/n, your room is opposite mine so if you need anything, just give me a shout yeah?" He says as he makes his way to the fridge to get a drink.

"Yeah, um, no problem, thank you Steve" you reply.

Tony walks in and asks to have a word with you alone. Better get this over with now, I guess. You think as you make your way outside.

"I'm sorry I didn't tell you about Morgan or that I purposed to Pepper." Tony says in a calm voice.

You give Tony a sharp look and say in a sharp tone,"yes because finding out your brother had a child five years ago is not exactly what I was expecting when I agreed to help with this mission,"

you can tell Tony is getting annoyed at you and he answers you back with "well I'm not the one who vanished of the face of the earth for six years!"

You can feel yourself getting angry and upset, "you know why I couldn't stay here!"

Tony give you a look to say he's sorry for shouting.

"Look I get it okay, I messed up, but I have finally moved on and I need you to get over it too" you say in a calm voice as you take a deep breath.

Tony doesn't say anything but puts his arms around you and pulls you into a hug.

"Get off me, it's weird" you squirm you way out of the hug.

"look I know what happened after josh died, and the shot through your lower stomach and everything else. After you went on the run, the doctor told me everything and I just wish you had called me back, I could have helped you-"

you cut him off and in a sharp voice you reply with "I said I'm fine. Look I am not the same person I was six years ago, I do not need nor want a lecture for you. I didn't need your help then, and I don't need it now so please, if you'll excuse me, I'm away to bed, goodnight!"

You quickly walk through the compound and to your room. As you shut the door, you can feel your emotions take over your body. You quickly push them away and become numb.

After a while you slowly fall asleep but get a nightmare. It's the same nightmare as usual. It's from the last mission. You can see Josh, who was your fiancé, being shot dead as he was running over to help you as you had just been shot in the lower stomach, you can feel the pain as if you are reliving every second.

You quickly wake up and run your hand over your face, pinching the bridge of your nose as you swing your legs of the bed and sit up. You look at the time and see it's 2:00 am. I need a drink, you think to yourself.

As you are getting a drink you suddenly feel a hand on your shoulder, your natural reflex is to grab it and twist it behind their back. So that's what you do.

"Ow, ow, it's only me" groans Steve in pain.

You let his arm go and he turns to face you. "Next time don't sneak up on me. Unless you have a death wish."

Steve laughs a little.

"I'm deadly serious Steve" you raise one eyebrow and give him a smirk.

"Okay, my bad, I'm sorry." He says while massaging his wrist.  "So what's wrong that you are up at two in the morning?"

You quickly turn you back to face the sink and reply with " nothing, just getting a drink" you take a sip from your drink and go to wash out your cup and put it back in the cupboard but trip over something and numb into Steve.

"Guess we're even now" he says as he looks down into your eyes. You eyes meet his deep sea blue eyes and you seem to be staring for ages before you clear your throat.

"Well, I'm away back to bed, night Steve" you walk back to your bed and eventually fall asleep.

It's the next morning and you decide to go down and workout before the meeting in the afternoon. So you get changed into some training gear and head down to the training room. You start punching the bag and you get a flashback of what happened on your last mission, just like last night only, somehow it fells worse. Get out of my head!

You keep hitting the bag until you hit the bag so hard that you burst it open and you snap back into reality.

"Here less than 24 hours and already wrecking things, not a good sign" says a female voice behind you. You turn around to see Nat standing against the door.

"Just getting ready for the mission Nat" you give her a smile while you change the punching bags. You look over to her staring at you.

"Is there something you need Nat?" She walks over to you and holds the punching bag steady while you hit it.

"A party, tonight, if you're interest, to celebrate Peter's 18 birthday" she says in between you hitting the bag.

"Peter?" You ask as you take a break and sit on the bench at the side.

"Yeah, he's a kid that is part of the avengers, Tony's favourite if you ask me" she laughs a little. "you'll see what I mean when you come to the party."

"Okay?" You reply in a confused voice. You train for an hour with Nat and then head up stairs and go and have a shower and get ready for the meeting.

You arrive down to the meeting and everyone is already sitting down, waiting for you to join them.

"I see the last six years hasn't improved you time keep skills at all" says tony is a sarcastic voice.

"You said 3" you look at your watch and notice it's now half 3, "well, I'm here now aren't I, so are we going to get started or are we going to are we going to sit around talking about how I'm a few minutes late" no one replies and as you sit down you say "exactly what I thought."

Tony starts the meeting by introducing you to Peter and you wish him a happy birthday, but don't mention his party as it's a surprise for him.

"So we have a month to prepare everything" says Bucky in a cornered voice

"what? That's plenty of time" reassures Sam.

"Yeah we just need to make sure we don't waste any time" says Rhodey.

"It's grand, we have loads of time, no need to panic" you say as you sit back on the chair with you feet on the chair so your knees are in your chest.

"Feet down y/n" insulted Tony.

You rolls your eyes and Tony is just annoyed at you. You look over and see Nat and Wanda laughing so you laugh with them. As you are finishing off the merging, Happy comes in to take Peter home to aunt Mays.

"So that'll do us for the day yeah?" Asks Clint.

As every gets up and Steve addresses everyone, "good work everyone" right before everyone starts to leave.

As you are walking out you can hear Bucky, Sam, Rhodey, Thor and Loki all talking about a girl, so you decide to listen in for a bit.

"She's amazing" says Rhodey.

"I love her attitude, it's so, so badass" says Loki.

"Just a shame she's Tony's sister" adds Bucky

"I'm going to ask her to be my date to Peter's party" says Thor very confidently.

Suddenly Sams sees you walking toward them and nudges them to stop talking.

"And y/n is not interested in people who have nothing better to do, than stand around talking about her and sorry not sorry Thor, but the answer, is no and it won't ever change." As you walk away you add "see you boys tonite at the party."
