CHAPTER TWELVE : GROCERY SHOPPING
|
"yo, angel." dabi pulled on his elbow, stretching as he walked into the living space. twice and toga were off to meet overhaul (much to both of their dissent) and the rest of the group lounged around or went out to scout new recruits. spinner and compress had run off together, and honestly, no one knew what they were up to. something about 'just a little fun run'.
"hmm?" you looked up from the list you had made, of groceries and other stuff. the league hadn't gotten a proper meal in weeks and you had an idea to fill their empty tummies. besides, this was the last night before toga and twice were 'permanently' stationed at overhaul's base.
dabi had been calling you the league's healing angel for a while. it was a bit awkward at first since you didn't know whether he intended it as a lover's nickname or just a cute thing for a friend but you'd grown used to his brotherly nature. it was more rough than sweet, though, but you guess that was just him.
then again, he was probably sucking up to you to get you to come along with him on his 'missions' so he could go a long time without worrying about his limits.
"'angel'?" shigaraki repeated, raising a dangerous eyebrow as his eyes darted between the two of you.
dabi ignored him. "i need you on this next mission."
you barked out a dry laugh. "yeah, no sorry. hard pass. relentless fighting and murder is your thing, not mine."
dabi rolled his eyes, bumping his shoulder into yours. "come on. you need the experience anyway."
"i'm good for now. maybe another time." you didn't want to slow him down and risk being caught because of your lack of combat skills.
dabi rolled his eyes and sighed. "fine, be like that then. i'm off." he mockingly saluted to shigaraki before leaving you and shigaraki alone in the base.
you let out a breath you didn't know you were holding. shigaraki sat across from you, removing the hand of his face once dabi left. you smiled while you drank him in again.
"what's with the 'angel' thing." he scowled. you rolled your eyes.
you smirked as you clicked the button on the pen you were holding. "is dabi's pet name for me bothering you?"
"you shut your mouth." he threatened, glaring at you as he propped his head on his palm.
"make me." before you could stop yourself, the childish comeback left your mouth. you pressed your lips firmly together as you studied his expression with wide eyes.
"keep this up and maybe i will." was what he said, mirroring your former smirk. you gaped at him, your body feeling warmer. a silence passed between you two.
the wind was whistling past the slightly broken windows, lifting the flimsy curtains into the air. the light illuminated all the dust hanging in the atmosphere, and when he stood up to walk to you, they bristled around him like fairies. he really was a sight to see when he wasn't trying to be scary. your eyes couldn't break away from him.
"oi, stop staring." he tched, scrunching up his face with a light blush dusting his face. why'd you have to look at him like that? you get his hopes up way too much.
you huffed and looked away, turning back to your list. he peered over your shoulder, getting nice and cozy against your side. it was weird to you, being constantly showered with affection, whether the intentions behind it were hollow or not. it made you feel... special.
"what is that?" he asked sharply despite how close he was to you, and how close he was trying to get still. you hummed at the unusual sensation of cold on hot.
"it's a list."
"i can see that, for what though?"
"groceries." you replied simply. he raised a mocking eyebrow, laughing with that hot rasp of his. you turned on him with indignation. "what are you laughing for?"
"you-" he licked his chapped lips and leaned over the countertop. "you want to go out for groceries."
"yes, what's wrong with that??"
"you're associated with us, brat." his amusement faded away, slowly. "you wanna walk around out there?"
you rolled your eyes, fighting the urge to flick his forehead. "does anyone even know my name?"
he blinked at you. you locked eyes with him and a smirk slowly formed on your face when he realized that you would just be a civilian out there. "didn't think of that, did you?" you teased. he scowled.
"you can't go out there." he fiddled with his fingers angrily.
"and why not?"
he glared at you. "reminder, i am the boss and if i say you can't go, you can not go."
"i would just go and grab a couple of things, fifteen minutes max." you promised. "come on, shigaraki... you and the others deserve a good treat after being on the run for a while."
he sighed. here you go again, talking about what they 'deserved'. he thought you were unbearably naïve. villains don't deserve anything.
"i don't like it." he grumbled.
"i know you don't," you hummed. "but please let me do this. you... can even come with me if you're that concerned!"
you were basically begging him at this point. shigaraki was on a watch list, so you didn't know if he would come or not, but... hopefully the thought of you being unknown as a villain soothed his mind.
he'd become more and more attached to you, especially after your night together. that was the first time in years he's gotten solid hours of sleep consecutively. it was a welcomed change. so obviously, when his peace of mind was going out and risking herself, he was bound to be overly cautious.
he ran a hand over his face mumbling something about 'the league was never here when he needed them' and stood up, unlatching himself from your grip. you stared at him expectantly.
"fine. i'm hovering, though." he relented. you grinned and clapped your hands together, happy. he watched you with a smidgen of a smile as you ran off to change and get proper disguises.
wow. he thought. i did that. he made you happy. he made you smile. a feeling of pride swelled in him.
