Lupin's POV

He's alive!! My Sirius is alive!

I pace our room, frantically trying to remember every detail of the day my love vanished.

I'd assumed he was dead when he disappeared into the veil at the ministry, but now everything's a mess and Dumbledore can't be trusted...

"Fuck!"

I can't believe how stupid I am!

"How could I let you go so easily?" I mutter, looking up at the portrait of Sirius that stares back at me.

He doesn't answer me, looking down with the same sad eyes I've grown accustomed to in the last two years.

Two years...Christ!

But he's alive...

What am I doing?!

I snap back to my senses and urgently scribble a letter to Arthur Weasley.

He'll know what to do.

Harry's POV

I've been reading my book for who knows how long when Lupin comes down, looking flustered.

I feel my muscles start to tense instinctively, and my ears fold down flat against my head.

He looks upset...what did I do?

I messed up!

I shouldn't have ever said anything...

Maybe he doesn't want me anymore!

Thoughts rush through my head uncontrollably and I feel my breathing quicken.

I can't go back there...I can't!!

My head screams and I curl into a ball, my hands shielding my head as Lupin seems to break out of his daze.

I feel a hand on my head and flinch, not knowing what he'll do to me.

"Oh Felix...I wish I could've saved him..." I hear, not entirely sure if he said it out loud or in his thoughts.

He starts trying to calm me down, saying things like "it's okay Felix, I won't hurt you" and "you're safe here", but it won't work. I'm too scared.

"I'm sorry I'm broken Moony...you can get rid of me if you want" I mumble, not really knowing why my mouth decided to speak.

"Oh hush baby, it's ok. You aren't broken, and I'll never get rid of you. You're my baby, remember?" He says, holding my face up to look into his eyes.

"Ok..." I'm still reluctant, but he's never hurt me before...

*Wham!*

There's a huge noise against the window, and I jump from surprise.

Lupin's POV

*Wham!*

I feel Felix jump against me and see his eyes widen with shock.

"It's ok Felix! Just an owl, no need to worry." I say, rubbing his arm in slight comfort before standing up to open the small window in the corner of the library.

Ah, Arthur got back to me quickly!

I open the window and let the disgruntled bird in. I give him a treat from my pocket, glad I had the sense to put it there while I waited for a response.

The letter was then dropped on the floor and the bird quickly left, seeming irritated at having to fly at all.

"Who's it from?" I hear Felix say softly from where I'd left him on the couch.

"Arthur Weasley I'd expect."

"Oh?" he said, a note of curiosity filling his voice. "What for?"

I might as well be honest with him, I need to build his trust and there's no reason to lie.

"It's about Sirius." his eyes widened a bit at his name "We need to find him if he's still alive."

He seemed to think for a moment, processing the information before replying "where do you think he'd be?"

"We don't know, but the veil at the ministry would be a good place to start." I said, still thinking through every possibility in my head.

He seemed satisfied at that, and looked back to the letter I'd almost entirely forgotten on the floor.

I picked it up and started to read hastily.

It read:

Remus,

This is amazing news! We'd thought he was gone forever, but now there's hope again. Thinking back to the events at the ministry, Dumbledore was the one who said the veil led to death...and if he can't be trusted, that may mean the veil was just a portal of some sort. Did anyone else touch it? We need to meet in-person to discuss this matter immediately.

I'm very glad to hear that Harry (<crossed out) Felix was rescued. It's strange to think that he was so close all this time... We can talk about his condition in-person as well. I find it hard to grasp such matters though owl alone.

If you wish, you can floo over as soon as you'd like. We're all here to help!

Arthur

I feel myself smile slightly as I refold the letter and tuck it into my coat pocket.

I look back to Felix who was watching me intently, waiting to hear what the letter was about.

"How would you feel about going to the burrow?" I ask, remembering how vulnerable he'd been just a few moments ago.

"Ok" he said with a small shrug.

I could tell he was trying to appear back to 'normal', so I quickly added "we don't have to go now if you need some time-" But he quickly cut me off.

"Let's go."

Felix's POV

I put on a determined face and strode over to Lupin.

"I'm ready. How are we traveling?"

He looked surprised for a second before composing himself and responding apprehensively "floo."

I let out a small groan, but nevertheless followed Lupin to the kitchen fireplace.

He handed me a small pouch with floo powder in it.

I gathered my courage and grabbed a handful, determined to do it right.

"The Burrow!" I exclaimed, throwing the course powder into the flames as I stepped in.
