In course time you began to recover as best you could. Some things refused to change..

Like the ceaseless nightmares. You chose to keep that to yourself though.

You needed to be deemed fit for missions or at least appear to be...

It became clear those would never really go away. You'd just have to live by them.

Kakashi figured the events brought about a change in you. He only regretted not better protecting you in the first place.

Lady Tsunade felt hesitant after what occurred although when it came down to it, she needed all the help she could get to stay on top of assignments.

You got word to head down for her office and took in a deep breath. "This time will be different" you told yourself leaving the apartment.

Your mind couldn't help but dwell on your silver haired sensei..

Things were ever strange with you two.

Yamato and the others recognized the change in behavior too. They wouldn't dare mention it though.

You two were never really a pair, all they had were speculations. Nothing more.

You felt ashamed in Kakashi's presence while he behaved distant. You knew you blew your chances with him which only further killed your spirit. After what happened with Deidara it didn't feel appropriate either.

It still hurt though. Seeing your bond had taken a hard hit.

Along the quiet street you noticed Iruka sensei. He appeared genuinely delighted to spot you.

"Back in action y/n?" He called cheerfully. His spirit was always so warm. You nodded with a small smile.

He heard what you went through, in fact almost everyone in the village did. Some treated you differently but he didn't feel that way.

"Mind if I accompany you?" He offered. He was headed that way too.

"I'd like that." You welcomed the company. You hardly spoke with many these days.

"Good" he joined your side hands in his pockets.

He could sense your gloom and wanted to be there to talk.

He was no stranger to recognizing when someone felt alienated or alone. He saw it all the time in Naruto.

The gravel rattled and crunched under each step as you two quietly walked together.

Iruka couldn't help but wonder why it wasn't Kakashi here to comfort you although that man was nothing short of an enigma.

"Things are going to be just fine y/n, from what I hear you're an impressive shinobi." he broke the silence. His words caught you by surprise yet you looked away sadly.

"I don't think I'm worthy of praise anymore.. After my involvement with the.." you trailed.

"...I could've ended up a rogue ninja." You finally let out. "I wouldn't be the first of Kakashi's students.." you stopped yourself from saying anymore feeling about to cry.
