"so many strong women began as broken girls."

March 2009
Cynthia was scared all that was happening didn't make much sense to her 4-year-old brain. She had heard strange growling while playing outside. When she came in, her parent had been freaking out. They had shoved her into the house with Nox, the family dog and her dad's phone. Nox had put himself protectively with Cynthia making sure that she didn't leave his sights. She had followed her parents around, trying to work out what was going on. Her dad had been getting his sword, and her mom was franticly calling someone. When Cynthia heard the growl again, it seemed to be just outside their cottage. Her parents had then bent down to her level.
"Can you remember what to do if it breaks in, sweetheart?" Her dad's kind voice had asked her.
"Yep, Dad! I'm to take Nox and go down into the bunker. From there, I am to call my Godparent's until one of them picks up and tell them everything that has happened," Littel Cynthia had told her parent's, proud of having remembered.
"That's right, You're such a smart girl," Her mom had told her, the pride on her voice covering her fear. Her parents had then pulled her into a hug.
"We both love you so much," Her dad had told her.
"We love you, darling," Her mom repeated, kissing her on the head.
"And I love you both so much," Cynthia had beamed up at them. She had then given them both a kiss on the cheek.
Her mom and dad had then left, walking out the door. Her mom had made sure to turn around and fortify it with her powers.
The sight of a Burned One coming out of the forest greeted her parent's. The couple had dealt with these creatures before. They quickly lept into action, killing it. What they hadn't expected was more of them to keep pouring out of the forest.
Cynthia, who had been looking out the window, was scared. Her parent always taught her what to do if a Burned One ever came to their home, but there was more than just one. There was so many they just kept coming in from the forest. Her mom then did something that Cynthia had never expected. Her mom started to float and grow wings.
When faced with the chance of her daughter and Husband being killed, Andromeda had mustered up the energy and power to transform. She was beautiful and powerful. Andromeda and Oscar were working as a perfect team. That all came crashing down with one misstep. A Burned One had gotten in around the back and had slashed at Oscars back, sending him screaming to the floor.
This is when Cynthia should have run and hidden, but the terror had frozen her in place. She had watched as her mom faltered in what she was doing and turned to see her husbands body on the floor. That was all that the Burned Ones had needed as they lept onto her attacking her and killing her.
This is when Cynthia's feet finally unrooted from the floor. She had taken off running, heading to the bunker. She had heard the crash as The Burned One broke the door. Cynthia was nearing the entrance to the bunker when she heard a noise behind her. A Burned One was right behind her. Nox had left her side to protect her back, growling at the Burned One. The Burned One had then lept at the dog. Cynthia had screamed she couldn't lose all her family in one night. As she cried out, she had put her hands towards the Burned One, causing a sudden ball of purest black to come out of her hands and hit the Burned One sending it flying back. Cynthia had then turned and ran through the bunker door, followed shortly by Nox.
Cynthia had closed the door, which was reinforced metal, and grabbed the phone. She immediately dilled the first number on the list, 'Farah Dowling'. The phone hadn't even rung once when Farah picked it up.
"What is the update" Farah had asked in her army voice "we are 5 minutes out and approaching fast."
"They killed my parent," Cynthia had sobbed, bursting into tears.
Farah was speechless. She knew that a Burned One ha been heard near the Willard home. She thought it would be a call from Andromeda or Oscar telling her that the threat was over. Not a call from their daughter Cynthia sobbing down the phone that her parents were dead.
"It's okay, we are nearly there, and you will be safe," Farah had comforted the sobbing girl "stay on the phone and tell me everything."
And so Cynthia had she had told Farah everything as she sobbed and hiccuped.
Less than 5 minutes later, Cynthia heard many cars pulling up, followed by punding feet. There had been a banging on the door, causing Cynthia to whimper, worried it was more Burned Ones.
"It's me," Saul Silva had called comfortingly, "its Godfather Saul."
At the sound of her Godfather Cynthia flung open the doors and flew into Saul's arms.
"They're dead," She sobbed into his arms.
"It's okay," Saul had reassured her rubbing her back "you are okay."
And Cynthia had been okay. All her Godparnet had stepped up to the mark. It was a three-way divorce, she joked. She spent some time with her godmother Luna, some with Farah and even some with Godfather Saul.
Her parent were honoured as heroes. Her Godparents never replaced them as her parent, but Cynthia was loved and happy.
